I decided to take my girlfriend on a drive down memory lane. I had told her about the animal-themed oil derricks I'd seen passing through when I was young and she was immediately sold on the detour. While driving through town, we saw some plants for sale and had to make the stop (we're plant folk). I'm really glad that we did. I didn't realize there was an entire farmer's market tucked right inside the main area of town. The plant selection was small, but interesting, and we picked up about five plants before heading down the main corridor. Mind you, this is a very small market, with maybe about 10-15 vendors in total. Normally, I'd consider these types of spots expensive, but we were really happy with the bang for our buck and the quality of the produce. The shine and size of the tomatoes was unbelievable. What's the difference between red, orange and yellow "meat"? I couldn't say, as no one was able to explain it to us). We even picked up some jams and jellies, local honey, and some amazingly-hot dipping sauce. All in all, I'd say we spent about $300 in a straight line of about 100 feet. Most vendors have iPad attachments and can accept plastic, but don't expect everyone to be so modern; cash is still king in places like this, and we were reminded the hard way. Thankfully, there is an ATM across the street. Everyone was really sweet and chatty, and provided a personal touch to every transaction. I just wish someone could have educated us on those dang...
Read moreThis place is real friendly and has fresh local produce. Remember this is a farmer's market and you will not get the Wal-Mart/ HEB prices. Now, I can say their pricing are negotiable. We are from the Houston Tx area and my dad complained about one watermelon that was over ripe he got within the past 2 months. The lady said sorry and gave him one on the house of his choosing. Great customer service....
