Brookshire's — Local services in Mabank

This store has gone downhill big time. I wish I could give zero stars but for whatever reason we have to leave at least one to review. I’ve been sick of this store for a while now but I think tonight was the last straw. The only reason I still occasionally shop here is because it’s closer than Walmart but I think I’ll just start sparing the extra 5 minutes to save time and have a slightly better experience from here on out. (I very much dislike Walmart too so it says a lot that I would rather go there than brookshires)

I bought some frozen bananas at brookshires tonight only to find when I got all the way home that they had been thawed out and refrozen. I immediately drove all the way back to get a refund and the guy working self check out said I would have to come back in the morning because the service desk was closed. I understand that it was getting close to closing time but it’s not my fault that they allowed their ice cream products to thaw out and then refroze them to still attempt to sell them. It’s not like I was planning on having to return ice cream of all things! This is also the same employee who took forever to help me on self check out a few weeks ago because he was too busy playing on his phone! So unprofessional, lazy and RUDE! Not a good look for a business if you ask me!

This also isn’t the first time we’ve had to return food. A month or so ago my husband bought a bunch of turkey that was on sale to cook and meal prep. The day after he cooked it, he opened one up and it smelled ROTTEN! No wonder it was on sale. We got a refund at least but it’s really starting to seem like they just let their food go bad and then just mark it down still trying to get that last dollar out of it since it seems to happen often that we get home and the food is bad!

This store also smells like weed way too often for it not to be the employees themselves that are smoking it. I have a hunch they even do it in the bathrooms because I took my kids potty one day and it smelled like weed really bad and then an employee walked out of a stall looking stoned! There are just so many things wrong with this store these days I’m surprised they’re still in business! I never would’ve thought that my money would be better spent at Walmart but at this point I don’t want to give this place...

I am an experienced retail merchandiser, and when my regular job slows down, I will pick up some side work with a 3rd party company who will connect me with companies who need merchandisers for various jobs. One of my favorite vendors that I have contracted with, has their products selling in many of the Brookshires and Super 1 Foods stores. I have serviced around 20 of these stores in and around my area on behalf of this particular vendor. I never had issues with store management or employees and have always enjoyed working in these stores. Until now.

I visited this particular store on three different occasions over the last month. The majority of the employees were just okay, not overly friendly, but professional enough. On two occasions though, I unfortunately came across a few employees that were just plain rude and snotty. One of those employees, I am sorry to say, is management and that is truly surprising. Usually store management is, at the very least, polite, helpful, and accommodating. The manager I met the first day was the complete opposite of that, and so rude. I even overheard her complaining to another employee about me and saying she could care less about my situation and what I needed help with. I was very taken aback by her comments and felt uncomfortable even having to deal with her.

I just hope they are nicer to the customers then they are to...

Prejudice very prejudice store and we are in 2024. Kaufman Brookshires is not racist like this store but if your any other race than white they stare you down! I wasn’t even going to do a review but this is one of multiple times that they have watched me over the other customers due to my color. As soon as I walk over they walk over to me as if they are going to check me out in self check out. An old white lady with green hair tells my toddler to let mommy pay for the candy. Now she watched me grab the candy for him and scan it before I scanned anything else. Is it dementia idk. But if ur watching me this hard and looking at what I scanned you can see I scanned this candy then proceeds to tell my toddler to let mommy scan it when he knows mommy scanned it already. I felt disrespected and accused of trying to steal when I have spent hundreds in this store but no more. I can take my money elsewhere. Before this it was a heavy set white guy that rushed over to watch me scan a few weeks ago ignoring everyone else that needed help to watch me scan my items. Someone should to a mystery shop on this place and report it to the news or...
