Truly professional car-audio installers who know what they are doing and take pride in their work still exist!!!

I’ve had a few shops/installers handle my car audio needs in the past and they never failed to disappoint. They all claimed to offer professional service but seemed to give the job to the new-guy and did little-more than run the wire and make it LOOK like a professional install was done. Every darn time I always ended up having to tuning it myself and breaking out the multi-meter and there were always small problems or cheap ‘fixes’ to encountered issues. -Experienced everything from shoddy brackets with a single screw holding it to the door with a rubber pad in-between to clipping signals and broken door panel clips. Due to these experiences, for the past decade I’ve done my own installations.

This time however, I spent roughly 3x weeks looking for someone I could trust to work on my new baby. (It’s ‘just’ a BRZ, but she's still my pride and joy.)

I had the absolute pleasure of working with David, of whom I corresponded with for a couple of days to ‘test the waters’ and eventually asked him to send me a quote. I provided a relatively firm budget and asked him to quote the best sounding setup he could while keeping the original OEM Head Unit. David sent me a quote containing Component Speakers, Sub, 2x Amps, a DSP along with estimated labor/materials.

I had many questions that included “Why this brand/model of speaker?”, “What’s the difference between running the 2x Amps and DSP quoted rather than a 5-Channel Amp and a DSP or even an all-in-one solution?” and many…. many more. I originally wanted to go with Focal speakers but he recommended another set that he claimed sounded better (subjective I know) and would save me a few hundred bucks. David explained his, obviously well experienced, reasons and essentially educated me on why he recommended the quoted setup. Needless to say, I got well versed during the questioning phase and went full-steam-ahead with his recommendations… Spoiler I’m glad I did!

Not only did he install everything and make it look OEM, from the factory, he also finely tuned everything. David showed me what volume level to stop at due to the OEM HU soft-clipping and had the equipment and data to prove it. (OEM HU isn’t as good as a quality aftermarket one…) and adjusted everything to sound pristine throughout the usable volume range. Crossovers/filters/DSP are adjusted perfectly; The sub and components are all separated beautifully, with the whole system sounding incredibly clean and precise.

Due to circumstances, he needed an extra day to work on the install. During this conversation he also informed me that he wasn’t satisfied with the quality of the brackets supplied for the install and, due to the delay, he would custom make all four of them at no extra cost! I’ve heard of customer-service but hardly ever see it implemented these days!

When I arrived back at his shop/residence to pickup my car, he had me go through my preferred genres of music and we listened to multiple tracks. During this time, he made minor adjustments to better suit my listening experience and took his time to make sure I was 100% satisfied before heading back home. Which was extremely appreciated, especially since his shop is an hour drive from where I’m currently staying.

I waited two weeks before leaving any feedback as I wanted time for the placebo effect to wear-off and have time to gauge the setup. At the end of these past two weeks I can confidently say that Sound Express USA has made me an extremely happy customer and I’ll absolutely be reaching out again to have Dynamat installed and discuss possible additions 😉

It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to write a review for something. However, I feel that if I didn’t do so now would be an egregious disservice to the complete and utter professionalism shown throughout this whole experience.

My experience with this place is too much to write out but I will say this. Its frustrating that before I came here my speakers worked fine and so did my subwoofer. After doing business with David, coincidentally 2 of my speakers now need to be replaced. The remaining speakers that are working, the sound goes in and out like there's a shortage somewhere or the wiring wasn't done correctly. I never had this problem before. Not to mention that he cut the wires for my subwoofer which explains why it no longer works.

And don't let me forget how I specifically asked if the radio would be compatible with the factory back up camera on my SUV and I was told "yes, it would be compatible." However, there was an entirely different backup camera installed on my car without my knowledge or permission. When I asked David about the installed camera, he responded that "the factory camera was really blurry when they hooked it up, so they went ahead and installed the other camera." Sir, if that were the case, why didn't you inform me of this alleged issue before proceeding to install something that I didn't ask for?

Not to mention that this said camera ALWAYS gets stuck on reverse screen. I have to shift from, R down to D, up to P and then back down to D again to get the screen to change from the backup cam. I can't shift from P straight to D. I literally have to go through above said routine every time I drive my car.

There was even one point where I told David, "I don't want the radio. Just put everything back the way that it was", due to there being some sort of issue with the computer or something. He said "okay, but I would still have to pay for the radio because he couldn't return to wherever he bought it from."

Sir, that is not my problem. Why would I still have to pay for something that I no longer want? And yet he proceeded to install the radio anyway. I had no knowledge of this until he came to tell me that they were finished. He made a note to tell me, "just don't turn the radio up too loud." When I asked him why not, he said that my speakers could not handle the amount of wattage/power that is being put out by the radio......Sir, I paid you for a PROFESSIONAL SERVICE that you told me that you could do to my liking and it is not. Even after the return visits to you for issues that I continued to have with this radio. "Just don't turn the speakers up too loud." With what I paid, I should be able to feel like I'm on the front row at a concert, inside my car.

Granted his price was the cheapest that I had found but you know what they say, "You get what you pay for." I went the cheap route and got cheap services.

I wanted to share my recent experience with David @ Sound Express. I came into contact with him via a forum just a few weeks ago, pretty green in my experience with DSP amplifiers and looking for direction on what to do with my 22’ Toyota Tundra audio wise.

David reached out to me on messenger with an amazing welcoming and offered to speak to me on the phone the same night to offer up his services and experience with DSP setups.

We talked for about an hour and I was blown away by his professionalism and also friendliness! Finally someone in the industry who didn’t try and tell me what I should run, but instead listened to what I wanted long term and made several recommendations for me to choose from.

We talked budget, technical abilities, SQ goals and David and I dialed up my dream system. Within a few days, I placed my order securely through his company’s invoicing system, which was huge for me as it was a secure credit card transaction.

Throughout the buying experience, David was extremely communicative and even covered some of the added expenses when the original Audison amplifier we ordered ended up not being available for several months.

The shipping phase was solid too! David packed all my components in heavy duty graded cardboard and it arrived safe and sound.
