One of the coolest places to visit in Michigan! To get to the island you'll need a kayak, canoe, boat, or even an inflatable air mattress (I can personally vouch for this means of transportation), or you can brave Lake Superior and wade out along the rocky shelf that leads from the shore to the island. I can't say exactly how deep the water is but I did manage to wade out with the deepest point hitting my chest and I'm 5'3", however this was on a fairly calm day and it could easily be a more treacherous journey if the swells kicked up which can happen quickly along the lakeshore so take caution! The island itself is like another land, it has a small sandy beach, the beautiful blue and red rocks of Superior ringing the northern coast of the island perfect for jumping into the cool water, and a surprisingly large forest that covers the center of the island. I could go on but honestly you should pack your gear and check it out for yourself, well worth...

Be careful though The rocks are sharp and make sure that you find a spot that you can get back out of the water. There are several places with ledges that will allow you to waste...
