I would never, ever recommend The Waters of Wexford to anyone. I wish someone had given me this warning before my mother spent 6 months here. Please take the time to read - it's worth it and will save your family member pain and suffering.
My mom moved in, in December of 2021 and moved out by July 2022. When touring the facility - we were told the PT team had Parkinsons training - they did not. We were told nursing staff did as well. They did not. We even had nurses tell us "Get your mom out of here".
In the 6 months my mother lived there she fell 3 times - (actually more times, but 3 times that warranted an ED trip due to hitting her head).
After her last fall she was admitted to the hospital - due to a brain bleed. During this time my siblings and I met with management - as we had concerns. Response time for buzzers. They keep response time records - and dismissed our concern of how long it was taking. I spent the night in the ED with my mom where she recounted how she fell. She froze (which is a frequent occurrence in Parkinsons) and didn't sit on her bed fast enough - so the assistant proceeded to push her. To which she ended up on the ground. The assistant left (because no one was responding to the buzzer) while yelling "LOOK WHAT YOU DID NOW". (due to this fall she ended up with a brain bleed) During the time my mother was in the hospital, the "Senior living consultant" Alaina - left me voicemails asking for all her records while she was there. Never once asking "is your mom ok" only questioning if she was moving out because we needed to give appropriate notice. Sorry - but that was the LEAST of my concerns We met with management - and were met with excuse after excuse after excuse. They had excuses for response times for the buzzers, excuses that their staff that knew parkinsons "Just wasn't working when your mom needed them" and numerous other excuses. John (i believe was his name) at the front desk needs to go. He is incredibly unfriendly, rude and unwelcoming to outside folks. He once called me saying "I need your moms power of attorney". Giving me no other information - talk about panic - I asked if something happened to my mother. He said "I'm sorry I can't give you any further information, i need a copy". WHAT THE HECK!. Plus - we had given them multiple copies of the paper work on multiple occasions. The staff is scared to use The Waters as a reference because of how bad it is there and the chances of them losing their license.
This place is NOT safe for your family members. Please don't put your family member through the pain and suffering my mother went through. We got her out as fast as we could - and it wasn't fast enough as she ultimately passed from that...
Read moreMy mother was at the waters of Wexford I DO NOT recommend. She was in the memory care approx. March- June 2020. First upset, the staff only read 15 percent of my cards and letters which I wrote to mom 85 percent of cards beautiful letters returned unopened, was never opened she never got to see my mother's day card, love letters, on outside of every letter says please read to her, open and read, you would think with covid 19 since we couldn't visit our loved ones they would of been read to her, And now since mom passed away June 28 she will never no how much she was loved. The nurses aides were wonderful kind however understaffed, I often helped pass out the dinner trays or their desserts. Talking to the nurses aides, they write what will happen on the weekends such as bingo, etc, but the aides say on weekends doesn't happen since they are busy. my daughter and son played games with the residents. Now I was only able to observe for three weeks before lock down. So I give them zero stars. Often times I entered mom was sitting in chair in her room alone. I will say the nursing aides were all very kind, and could see mom needed more assistance but feel not able to give. I found two nurses very rude on phone, and at times in person. Oh also they lost moms expensive hearing aides after three days. My daughter found it in the laundry basket, thank heavens before wash. Then took back home since mom fell in their care and brought back down they were lost again, only have one. Then didn't seem to care. One of the aides said their is a residence named Cindy their, she has two sons that are an attorney, and they were always talking about suing, now I understand . Please think twice before putting your loved one here, also the doors are too heavy and large hallways, I put a phone call to corporate office about my mail not being opened that was my only contact since covid 19 no answer they have not gotten back to me since last week, never got a return call do this is why I posted this review. Oh some of the aides also talk about others and families their. I could continue to mention names as well, but will not. As I scroll through the reviews their are higher up staff that wrote alot of the reviews. Interesting. So to recap very sad I placed mom in this assistant living looks can be deceiving. Zero stars for me, a...
Read moreMost of the staff they have are very nice. The place is nice inside. The food is hit and miss. I wouldn't say the meals are balanced. Getting vegetables on your dinner plate would be nice.
Updated: wanted to provide an update, especially since this is a very expensive place to live. I lowered my rating due to what you pay vs. what you get.
Unfortunately, the facility seems to have difficulty retaining staff for long periods, so there's often a revolving door of new employees. However, the staff members who are there are consistently friendly and caring.
While most of the rules and procedures are followed, there are occasional lapses that impact the residents. As for the food, it's still hit or miss—sometimes it's enjoyable, but other times it falls short in terms of flavor and quality. It is not consistent.
Another concern is the parking situation. It can be challenging to find a spot some days, especially with a bus that takes up a valuable space despite being used only once a week. It would be more efficient to park the bus along the driveway near the garage, freeing up parking for residents...
