This place has only been open a couple days so I’m my opinion, it’s completely reasonable that the waits for food might be longer than usual or the store may be crowded at times. Give people grace. My suggestion: go later in the day past 6pm to miss the large crowds. What I was most impressed with was :VARIETY!!! I saw so many unique products in every single isle that I’ve never seen before. The produce section - amazing variety however the one con I will say is because all the green produce is organic, I had to pick through to find pieces that looked super fresh. I was especially impressed with the isles consisting of food from different cultures. I personally really appreciated the middle eastern isle that contained Jordanian zatar, rose water, and arabi sweets! I would’ve loved to see Palestinian Zatar in that isle but I digress. I loved how they had an entire isle dedicated to clean pet food as well! $2 a can isn’t bad AT ALL when you consider the quality. 95% prices are the exact same as fresh market/Whole Foods/Jungle Jims. My mindset: I’d rather pay a few extra dollars contributing to better my health with cleaner products vs hundreds of extra dollars at the hospital from years of eating junk/fake product. A lot of the products in this store are more clean than your average grocery store so in my opinion ,most of the prices are justifiable. The parking lot wasn’t crazy when I went. Customer service was amazing. Lisa was extremely helpful& overall a sweetheart. They also have a point system think the same as a Kroger plus card* where you get special deals and build points to get money off if you sign up. I highly recommend everyone to check it out even if your not planning on buying anything. I will definitely be back and definitely recommend to...
Read moreI wanted to love Dorothy Lane. Finally, having an alternative to our area's ubiquitous Kroger!
DL is bright and beautiful, bursting with possibilities. I shopped, quickly filling my basket without even venturing down all of the aisles.
However, the bubble quickly burst..
I ordered an Alsatian pizza for my husband, something we haven't found outside of France. I was able to see it being prepared, and I cringed when I saw it being prepared by ungloved hands, which had also touched many other things. I pointed this out to someone I believed was overseeing the kitchen, and I was told that gloves couldn't be worn because of the heat from the oven. The gloves would literally melt onto his hands.
Well, I certainly understood that melting plastic onto one's hands is very undesirable. Do I wish chemical burns upon this nice young man? No, of course not. But, his hands were NOT in the oven at the SAME time he was hand-assembling my pizza. All the other employees GLOVED while touching a pizza, ungloved near the oven, and put on new gloves when, you guessed it, touched a pizza.
In my advanced years, I have become accustomed to gloves & hairnets (which were also not worn even with a sign saying "hair net area or zone or something like that). Should I just be thankful for this opportunity to build my immunity? I'm not sure...
The peaches were all bruised and largely unusable.
The camembert was bland, as was the French boule.
All that said, DL Mason had opened only the day before and for this reason want to cut them some slack. There are going to be hiccups. I get it.
The mushroom & farrow dish was darn good. I might go back for this and give them another shot. Our area NEEDS a place with DL's offerings - we also need...
Read moreAbsolutely gorgeous new store! Norman Mayne and his family are great people in my book. People on here that mention the prices really need to look into these products! The products you find at Dorothy Lane Market are held to a much higher standard than a run of the mill grocery store. They really are quality focused. The two star rating is because I was written up for taking time off during the Christmas season in 2018 to visit my grandma in hospice by the meat manager at Washington square (he asked me how old she was “I said 94” his exact words were “how long did ya think she was gonna live”? (I honestly saw red!) which really hurt coming from someone that I had previously respected! i had been a meat cutter for years at previous companies and never seen behavior like this before! i just needed time to grieve!!! She may have had a very long life but I was missing someone I had been very close to for 33 years! most of my peers were very empathetic and caring . I reached out to the owners to no avail they were very busy that time of the year also! I will say by the time I quit I was acting just as unprofessional as I had been treated! I found out a few years after I quit they made him the meat and seafood director. I still have friends employed by this company and I do believe it’s a great company! Try their products before you dismiss them based solely on price! If an ear of corn is a dollar I can tell you it’s probably the most delicious ear of corn you will...
