Go Fly Maui Hurray!
My daughter and I had one of those lifetime experiences with Go Fly Maui the first week of February. Nick, our pilot, is a fun, laid back kind of gentleman and a very competent pilot. Go Fly Maui is the only open-door helicopter services I could find on the island that allows cameras on board. Well worth the price of the tour. I am the photographer on the trip so it was important that the pilot knows how to orbit and cant angle the helicopter around the subject properly in order to get the shots I am hoping for. Also, my daughter has been contemplating becoming a pilot. This tour with Nick has further inspired her. Nick somehow arranged a sunny, relatively calm day for our flight and a phenomenal photography shoot. We ended up in the whale birthing area and were fortunate to witness a escort whale defending a mother whale and her calf from an âintruder whaleâ. The intruder probably was a male wanting to mate with the female putting her calf in danger. The escort whale was successful in rebuffing the intruder. Nick informed me they get to see this type of behavior a couple times a season. However, as Nick told us âWe do see this type of thing a few times while the whales are in town but what was so cool and unique was that the mother and calf were being forced into the shallower waters. It just adds to the shotâ. Nick knows whale behavior well enough and using his piloting skills, he spoon-fed my camera with shots of the whole escort/intruder event.
Thank you, Nick, for giving us such a fun, exciting and productive adventure,...
Read moreMy wife and I had an incredible time with Go Fly Maui. This is the only doors off helicopter experience available in Maui (at least as of Jan 2023) that will allow you to bring more than just a phone on board. I was able to bring my camera and Insta360 camera without issue. Both Nick and Magen were incredibly professional and personable!
We were able to get some incredible shots during our flight and had a great time too. Because you fly in a smaller helicopter here (with only 4 seats total including the pilot's seat), you don't need to fight for window seats - every seat is going to get you a completely clean view out the side of the helicopter. The entire experience is one on one with Nick (the pilot). We happened to bump into other pilots around the airfield and everyone we ran into went on about how skilled Nick is as a pilot and how he's just an all around great guy -  all of which is absolutely true.
Nick gave us some great tips on other spots to hit on the island and really made the whole thing such a fun experience. Truly a once in a lifetime experience if you're visiting Maui - we couldn't get the smiles off our faces for days! If you're humming and hawing about whether or not you want to do a helicopter tour, or which one to do, I'd say hum and haw no further - get in touch with Go Fly Maui and book in with them today. These guys feel like a bit of a hidden gem right now on Maui so get in now while you can before you need to book a...
Read moreThis was our second time going to Maui and our second time going to Hana. We didnât want to drive the road to Hana, it was great and we made a nice trip out of it to see the sites and stop at all the cool stops, but not again, lol. We opted to reach out to go fly Maui and see if there were transport options. I reached out to a couple of helicopter companies and they were the fastest to respond. Magen was fantastic with communication and very thorough answering all of our questions before we even booked anything through them.
There was scheduling changes with our flights and they were more than flexible with the changes. That was a reassuring for us since we didnât have a secondary mode of transportation lined up.
Once on ground, Nick made us both feel safe and comfortable with going over pre, during and post flight procedures and protocols.
Weâre no strangers to helicopters having both served over 24 years each in the military and we both felt Nick was awesome behind the stick.
Look into Go Fly Maui first if youâre going out to HÄna and have driven out that way before. You wonât be disappointed. Many Mahalos Nick and Magen, weâll see you next...
