I drove towards the Receiving Door to donate a good gas dryer. When I approached the drive, there was an older man sitting in a “Habitat for Humanity” box truck blocking the drive. He was eating an apple. I lightly bumped the horn to get his attention. I waited for him to see me and move, but that didn’t happen.
Again I lightly bumped my horn to get his attention. He looked right at me and continued eating his apple. He wasn’t budging and didn’t care that he was blocking the drive.
I approached very slowly and moved my mirror in trying to get my vehicle by. I bumped the horn again. He just watched me. He never moved. I squeezed by.
I parked and walked in to find someone to help me unload the dryer. I found a woman who called to get a man to help us unload the dryer. A man came walking by after about 10 minutes. She asked if he would help. He gladly said Yes and lowered my tailgate.
The older man with the apple hopped out of his box truck with his apple still in hand and angrily told the man not to help us, that “she needs to learn.” He was demanding, hateful, unashamed of making a hostile environment for everyone.
If he behaves like that on property, he is certainly worse when he is picking up things at peoples houses. I can only imagine how poorly he treats his helper. He probably has road rage and expresses his entitlement and control wherever he goes. He shouldn’t be trusted with any authority at all. Certainly not over people. He is a very angry man.
The woman who was trying to find help to unload the dryer, was upset and shaken. She didn’t deserve that. Nor did the...
Read moreCalled in to ask pricing ranges for their doors and they were like "I don't know, you'll have to come in." Because an hour round trip for me on a subject they should have some general idea on or could take 2 minutes to find out is great. But whatever, I went in and All the employees were sitting around, literally in a group doing NOTHING (would have been real hard to help me out right?) and one calls out "7 mintes!" [Everything I found said they closed at 6 with no updates on hours for COVID, but nope, closing at 5, something the person on the phone sure as hell could have mentioned when I called at ~4:15] I asked about the change in close time and received one of the most condescending sarcastic responses I've ever heard. Not a "apologies for the inconvenience" or any level of normal 'that could have been handled better' brush off so much as a "they must not have changed it, and it's totally your problem for not checking better when there's a virus out there" And naturally the one item of any interest to me had no pricing on it; most of what they did have though was way closer in price to retail than I would have expected for often much lower quality. So had some very negative interactions for no benefit.
But seriously, in a time where millions are out of work it's weird to see people so disinterested in having their jobs as these folks. Like, plenty of folks happy to replace you right now if you hate...
Read moreI visited in August 2023 and again in mid-October 2023 and I swear the inventory hasn't changed at all. Same shoddy broken furniture that no one wants and overpriced at that. I'm talking broken floor lamps for $40, broken bookshelves for $60, and today they have an antique (1930s) dental drill (!) for $80! (Never mind that it looks broken, too. WHO is going around to thrift stores and looking for... antique dental drills?)
Did I mention how EXPEN$IVE everything is? (Even the broken stuff!)
The employees (or are they volunteers?) are all surly and look like they don't want to be there. The employee (an older woman) at the front counter kept giving me dirty looks, even though I was just walking around and browsing. An older man (a worker, but not sure what he does) told me "you can't go back there" (to the rear section of the store where they keep their inventory), even though that's where the PUBLIC RESTROOM is.
If you're looking for secondhand or surplus building/construction materiel, such as "gently used" front entrance doors and the like, you won't find it here. There's a lot of broken glass, broken metal, a few sliding patio doors that look like they've been sitting there since the '90s.
I'm not from the area (north Texas) originally, but I heard about this place when I moved here. I asked my friend what one can buy there; she said "paint." That...
