If you’re even thinking about renting UTVs and heading to Kirwin Ghost Town—stop thinking and just do it. This was hands-down one of the most memorable days of our entire Yellowstone trip, and we owe it all to Thom.

We had a crew of 12 (yes, 12!) including kids, parents, and grandparents, and we rented two 6-seater UTVs. One of the coolest things? You do the ride completely on your own—no guide, no caravan—just your group, your trail, and the wide-open wilderness. It was the perfect mix of adventure and freedom.

Thom made everything super simple: he loaded maps and waypoints onto our phones (with a slick little app), gave us satellite phones in case of emergencies, and sent us off with all the info we’d need. It felt like we had a local expert in our back pocket the whole time—without anyone breathing down our necks.

The trail through Shoshone National Forest is stunning—think mountain views, peaceful creeks, and that glorious feeling of being completely off the grid. And the wildlife! We saw FIVE moose, including one with a baby (!!), plus mule deer and pronghorn. The kids were beside themselves with excitement, binoculars in hand, calling out sightings like mini rangers.

Kirwin Ghost Town itself was straight out of a movie—abandoned buildings, old mining structures, and dramatic mountains all around. We had a picnic lunch by a roaring creek (don't forget to pack your coolers) and explored at our own pace before heading back.

Oh, and did I mention you have the UTVs from 9am to 6pm? So there’s zero rush. We stopped when we wanted, took our time, and soaked it all in.

Thom is a total gem—so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He set us up for success and gave us a day we’ll never forget. If you’re heading to Cody or the surrounding area, do yourself a favor and add this to your itinerary. Seriously. You...

This was far better than Yellowstone!!

Thom went way out of his way to help us have the best day possible and we can't thank him enough. My only complaint was that we all needed more than one day to do this adventure! We were out west for two weeks, visiting both RMNP and Yellowstone, but this was by far our favorite spot and we would have come back for a couple more days had we had the time!

Thom even let us move our day back a couple of days so we could have a sunny enough day to enjoy this adventure in September. That isn't always possible during the busy season, but it was a life saver for us, because we originally picked a dangerously cold day. And the day we went instead was perfect and sunny. He equipped the UTV well with blankets, rain coats, and supplies. His instructions were thorough and he gave us plenty of places to explore. The ATV made the fun even better. The drive is quite a climb and I wouldn't want to do it without four wheel drive, but the ATV made the adventure even more fun.

I loved watching my family be in amazement at the beautiful scenery. This has to be the most beautiful place in Wyoming. I have been recommending this business to everyone I talk to who is considering a trip to Wyoming. If I could, I'd give Thom a 10 star. Very well run and his hospitality and knowledge was the best. In a world where people in the hospitality business are sometimes inhospitable,...

An incredible experience!

To start, we called on short notice, getting into town late at night. Thom answered the phone and my family of five ready to roll.

The details are all worked out and fine-tuned. He covered all of the machine and how best to use it. The maps he gave were accurate and so very helpful. Using the AvenzaMaps app let me see exactly where my family was at all times.

I’ve never had an experience like this. As we drive in, the Absarokas kept getting closer and then we were in them, surrounded by them. Absolutely stunning. The great part of the adventure, is you can go from that (Kirwin trails) to the middle mountains and experience something completely different, to do it a third time as you hit the pastures and plains of the Pitchfork.

We saw plenty of pronghorn and mule deer, several herds of bison, and several herds of elk as well. We hoped to catch sight of a moose, as we had the most beautiful setting for it in the middle mountains.

Overall, we were blown away by this adventure. We didn’t even get to make it to Kirwin because of creek levels, but we didn’t need it. We wouldn’t have gotten to see so much of the area if we had made it to the town.

This was our first trip, and won’t be our last. Thom takes care of everything and has you ready to go! We can’t wait to come back to Meeteetse and do it...
