On Monday January 10 I hired this service to check my dishwasher because it wasn't draining. $125.00 service call which I happily paid. But basically all he did was look at it, open the door, pull the wash arms out, put them back and told me to try putting vinegar in it and let it sit overnight. Run it the next day and if it didn't unclog the drain, call him back and he would give me a price on repair/replacing drain. I tried what he said and it did not work. So I called and asked for a price on repair. He said $225.00 for parts and replacement in addition to the initial $125. Figuring I'd be in to it for $350.00, I decided to not call him back and just buy a new floor model at Lowes for 500.00 and install it myself. Tonight, Friday Jan 14th, I began to remove the old dishwasher in preparation to go to Lowes, pick up my new one, and install. I removed the drain line and don't you know there were a couple chunks of glass that must have slipped through the tub strainer and lodged in the drain mechanism which caused the drain pump to clog with more than just sludge. Once I cleared out the glass and blew through the drain hose, the clogs were gone and when I ran the dishwasher...Perfecto! Fixed! Me, a person who does not have the time or inclination to do home appliance repairs, did it myself because I couldn't see spending $350 on a repair when I could replace for $500. You would think for the initial $125 he could have tried to pull off the drain hose to properly diagnose as part of the initial service call to see if it was just a clog. But nope...He just took the $125, gave me some lip service, and then tried to charge me another $225.00 to repair. And he came recommended. Do yourselves a favor, don't trust this guy. We he fix it, probably. Will he charge you, unnecessarily, way more than the repair should be, that would be a hard YES. If I could have given 0 stars I would have. But he gets one star, and I'm chalking that up, mainly, because he "forced" me to become a more...
Read moreFirst off, if you can't find a model and serial number sticker on an Whirlpool oven, it means a licensed Whirlpool technician likely deemed it beyond repair and removed the sticker to indicate this.
After that, it's illegal for any other licensed Whirlpool technician to work on it. Someone could buy it on the black market and use unauthorized parts for a temporary repair.
I didn't know this until I ran into this situation myself when the electronic system in my oven died.
I called A Able to schedule an appointment to look at the oven. A technician showed up 3 hours late. The technician apparently wasn't aware of the above information, as he couldn't find the model number sticker and said he'd try to find matching parts to replace what was broken, but would have to somehow determine the model number.
He said he'd get back to me by the end of the day, but didn't. Then it became the next day. Then 2 days later, I got a text saying he was still looking. I texted 5 days later for a status update and never received a reply.
Now it's two weeks out and I've bought a new oven. I essentially paid a $125 service fee (plus tax) just to meet the guy. He must be a fan of Steve Miller, because he took the...
Read moreI had a leaky dishwasher and called A Able Appliance Service the tech came out right away and said he’d price out the cost to replace all the gaskets. I paid him for the estimate and was told that payment would go towards any repair cost. He said he’d call either that day or the next day. No call. I called back on the afternoon of the third day and he said he just was finishing getting the quote together and would call me within the hour. Again, no call. I followed up the next morning with a message and he finally called me back and told me that he could only replace two of the three, the cost would be several hundred dollars, and he wasn’t sure it would fix the problem. I questioned the price since it seemed steep for only 2 gaskets and I wasn’t sure if that included the amount I already paid. He said he had already taken off the initial payment I had given him making the number even more questionable in my mind. It was nearly the cost of a new cheap dishwasher for two gaskets? I ended up buying a new dishwasher and won’t call this place to fix it if there...
