Went there tonight to buy an item that was supposed to be in stock. After looking in all the logical places to no avail, I approached the cashier to inquire. His response was verbal directions to the department it should be in. After looking there again and carefully, I returned to the register and he had disappeared. After looking around for him for a few minutes as the line behind me formed, he reappeared and I followed up. His response was that they didn't have it. I pointed out that the web site said they do. He was clearly uninterested in checking for himself or looking in their stockroom. He just shrugged and claimed it's not uncommon for the website to be wrong. Hmm, I thought chain stores had a real time inventory that updates back to their mothership. As I was leaving in a huff, rightfully as I had made an unproductive special trip, he said "thank you for understanding," extra loud so everyone could hear. Read moreI've bought my Redstone fire-blocks there for years, for my wood burning stove, but was very disappointed this year. The TSC website offers/advertises Redstone, but this Merrimack TSC carries 'Graf' brand, which burns nearly 1.5 to 2x as fast. Which means my money is burning 1.5 to 2x as fast.
And to compound my annoyance this year, after years of making the same purchase each fall, I was told they will no longer provide the 1 ton+ discount, on the $3.49 sale price. So I was hit twice this season - suddenly didn't get the 1-ton discount, and I'm burning twice as much, as they're selling an inferior product that doesn't match the advertised brand.
Next year I'm going to try buying it online, to see if I get the Redstone brand again, since going to the store to get the 1-ton discount is now just a waste of gas. Or, I'll just buy my winter wood elsewhere.
