So this will mark the very first time leaving a review for a frozen pizza brand. This is seriously some outstanding tasting pizza and never in my life did I ever imagine I'd come across such a brand that tastes so good.
From growing up and thru time over the decades and up till this point I've had my fair share of some of the most popular mass franchise brands like Red Baron, Tombstone, Freschetta, Palermo's and where I live in the Chicago suburbs popular brands like Home Run Inn, Connie's and Vito & Nick's II.
Overall i've tried easily around 30+ frozen pizza brands in my life but so far according to my taste buds, Heggies comes out on top. Haven't tried every different selection but a few of them and it's the pepperoni & sausage that I come back to the most.
With only 2 toppings besides cheese I can taste the cheese and zesy sauce the best while some of the others with multiple toppings drowns out the flavor of the cheese & sauce. Hands down, this past spring Heggies became my new favorite pizza brand that dominates my freezer.
Sale or not on sale at my local Woodman's (only place near me that sells it), whenever I run low I'm buying more. Yes folks, this pizza is THAT good and probably the closest a frozen pizza has come to some of the better local-owned pizza joints I've dined in.
To the staff at Heggies, keep up the great quality work you put into making the finest frozen pizza out there and I wish you decades more of...
Read moreI have lived all over the United States - Missouri, Arizona, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. I recently moved back to Iowa. Some might call me a pizza connoisseur. I've tried it all - Chicago style, Detroit style, New York style, Greek style, gas station, mom and pop, chain, high class brick oven, flatbread, pita, cauliflower crust, deep dish, hand tossed, thin crust, stuffed crust, square cut, homemade, and frozen. The thin crust pizzas can be hit or miss. Sometimes they are too dry or overly crunchy. Heggies is available at the Casey's gas stations in Des Moines metro. I have purchased 8 of the Sausage and Pepperoni. In comparing to others I find them to be more expensive by $7-8.00 per pizza. There is a ton of cheese if you like that. They take about 18 minutes to bake in my oven - broil for an additional 2 minutes for that perfect golden brown top. The crust has a nice crispiness and the longer it cools the softer it gets. I find the consistency of the sauce to be a bit thin and my first pizza dripped all over my shirt. The overall flavor is very good and the toppings are plentiful. Buy them on sale - Casey's currently has a buy one get one deal. I'd give...
Read moreI'm a truck driver with Butler Transport out of Kansas City. I had a delivery at Heggies on 11/21/23 but on the way I experienced some mechanical issues and ended up delivery almost a day and a half late on Thanksgiving eve at 9:30pm, hours after Heggies closes. The gentleman who met me at Heggies to unload my trailer (I don't remember his name) was extremely kind and understanding. He did me two favors without me even asking and it helped me more than I can describe. The first favor: If he hadn't come in to unload my trailer after hours I would've had to wait until Monday (this was Wednesday) because of Thanksgiving and then the weekend. The second favor: He offered to allow me to spend the night on the property because I only had a half hour of available drive time left which isn't very much to find a safe and legal place to park for the night. These two unsolicited favors changed the entire trajectory of the rest of my week and the week to come. Thank you sir for for compassion...
