I am making this review as a note for any further issues. Someone from maintenance entered my apartment I am renting, with no notice or anyone to tell me someone was coming. I have only been here for 1 week and I have a dog who could have gotten out when I was not home or if something happened ( she is was not in a secured area because no one was suppose to be entering my apartment) to the maintenance person. This comment is here Incase it is needed for any further issues. Thank you Issued happened 3/28/18
Updating my review: Current neighbor whom I share a wall with smokes a lot of weed. It is currently leaking into our apartment bathroom now and into the hallway. I was recently randomly drug tested for the smell seeping into my clothes now. I cannot and do not all all partake in this drug use so my test was clean however it is an issue I had to explain for my job. 6/28/18
Also pool is very busy since Oaks pool is still not working. Also unsure when gym will be up and running no email on that yet. Was hoping to use the amenities for the year I have my lease. Will update with any other issues or if improved 6/28/18
Updating my review: Comment from management was placed for explanation of issues. I have gone into the office about the drug smell seeping into the apartment( 4/22/18). I was told to call the police from the woman in the office, and that they canât do anything until records have been placed lawfully. They also informed me that the smell would be coming from my upstairs neighbor not the apartment next to me since the vents are shared by apartment on top of apartment not by floor. Good to know information.
From previous residences knowledge, Oak drive pool was closed last year as well. Again main office pool is very busy. Iâm assuming school being out. Also I went in and asked about the other pool opening when the gates were not working, and I picked up pool passes, back in mid June, the woman I spoke with said the inspector was also coming that week. Not sure if it was inspected or rescheduled, or itâs just something to say. Will update with any more issues or recent improvements, still no email for gym.(7/26/18)
Update on my review: Office has been remodeled ( which was remodeled 2 1/2 years ago) still no gym yet.
I did call the local police department about the weed smell seeping into the apartment, he advised unless I know which apartment it is actually coming from he cannot just go and knock on doors however he will swing in to see if he can spot the problem from the outside (which I did see him swing in.) he then let me know I can have the call log printed and turned into the office which is what I did. I went down to mint hill police department and had it printed and turned it into the office. This was July. They advised me in the office they will send and email to both tenants above and below me to fix the issue. It has not stopped, it has been every single day and worse on the weekends.
I stopped in the office on September 29th and advised the woman in the office (when I had returned home from work) it smelled so bad in the hallway and even worse in my apartment I had to open my slider door and waste my cooled down apartment to try and get the smell out. I burn candles and wall flowers and it still will not cover the smell. She told me she would send an email to the whole building including me to let everyone know a check would be done. It is now October 1st still no email... not sure what to do now except go in everyday and let them know I smell it.
Also cabinet door in kitchen has a hinge giving way, looks like the partial board door is not holding the screw in, might be the screw is too short. And above my entry door we have paint starting to ripple, water must be coming in from somewhere, I will advise the office about both issues tomorrow. Also there is a locking bar or sorts that has been broken on the sliding door I assume itâs a brace to keep the door shut. I did advised maintenance about it when we first moved it however where it was broken he advised me he...
Read moreI lived here with my fiance for about the past year. We haven't had a lot of the problems other people have had, and I'm surprised to see the rating so low.
Management: About midway through our stay the management switched from MAA to Pegasus. With both companies I never had a single issue. There is a fee to pay the rent if you use a credit card, but you can use bank account transfers for free, which makes paying online easy.
Update: about a month after moving out I received an e-invoice for electric recovery (our electricity bill didn't cover the last 2 days of our lease). The bill seemed very high for 2 days ($34.00), so I called in. Manager said that there was "a calculation error" and sent us the corrected total, as well as the bill they used to calculate it (which was $41). Unfortunately their corrected amount double counted a day. We received this e-invoice about 4 days before it was due, though it said it was generated around 3 weeks prior. Went in the office after receiving no further communication to find the manager was off for the day. Rather than drive back in later to contest a 3 dollar charge, I'm dinging this review. In short, management has poor math and time management skills. I should have received this invoice the day it was generated, I should have been charged the correct amount the first time, and they shouldn't be double charging the days.
Apartment: Our apartment had been recently renovated and came with a washer/dryer. Having looked around a bit in the area, this seemed to be the best amount of space for the money. Our apartment was carpeted with laminate kitchen floor and had dark cabinets with dark appliances. One kind of unfortunate thing is there isn't an overhead light in the living room, but we got a couple floor lamps and it was fine.
Amenities: The gym is kind of small and dark, so we weren't really thrilled with it. There are two pools that seemed fine, but we never visited. The grassy areas are nice for walking a dog, though many owners don't pick up after their pets. You have the opportunity (and pay for) to request people to spray for bugs every so often. We never had a problem, but we had them come by to spray every so often as a preventative measure.
The not so nice: As others have mentioned, there were all sorts of "interesting" smells while we lived here (probably weed? Smelled kind of like a skunk).
I could generally hear loud sounds through the ceiling/walls, though our neighbors weren't too loud most of the time. Around right before we moved somebody moved in with a baby, and we could definitely hear the baby cry. This does not strike me as a kid-friendly community, so I have no idea what they were thinking.
The apartment has a contract with TWC (Or Charter. w/e) that forces you to get cable when you sign up. This costs an additional $50 a month, which kind of sucks because we don't really watch TV.
At one point during Christmas the outgoing mail was robbed. We received a few Christmas cards that had been torn open. I never found out if it was a resident or not.
Management: Wonderful people, had absolutely no problems. We thoroughly cleaned our apartment and received our full deposit back (minus the remaining utilities balance). Maintenance was completed within a day or two at most, with more urgent matters being attended to more quickly. Our A/C had a drip at one point and it was taken care of within 2 hours.
Conclusion: On the whole, I believe this is a good place to live if you're on a budget. You're not going to like all your neighbors, and the amenities could be better, but you aren't going to get a better apartment in this price range. If you're looking for a quiet, smoke-free environment with top of the line appliances and amenities, you're SOL at this price range in this city. You're looking at an additional $400/month MINIMUM for those options. TL;DR: If you're looking for a good BUDGET place to save your money, live safely, and have a pretty good living space (albeit with thin walls) with nice management, this place is...
Read moreTurn away from this place and never look back. My family and I have been renting at these apartments for far too long. How long? Since the property management company was MAA; that's how long. Even then, our stay has been terrible.
Let's start out with what you see when you first turn down Stoney Glen Drive. There's always trash sprawled along the street, the hallways and stairways are filthy with rotting moldy wood along with other people's trash, the sidewalks have tiny bushes growing between the cracks, and the grass is nearly dead with lawn people basically blowing dirt around. We rented on the third floor in a three bedroom apartment which have two balconies and both had us in fear of walking out because the wood was basically holding on to dear life onto the nails.
Moving on to management. During the long stay that we had at this place, not once was management ever helpful which seems crazy since they change staff almost every six months. They don't know how to give people proper notice of anything important. At the beginning of the year, someone in our building was having a roach issue. This was something we never had a problem with but apparently everyone in the building has to have their apartment sprayed for roaches in order to fix one residence's issue. Having our place sprayed was not the issue though, being told that we had to completely clear our our kitchen and bathrooms in 48hrs when everyone in our home works 8-12hr days was the issue. We did the very best we could to clear the place out and we followed the late notice by clearing out the rooms indicated which were the kitchen and bathrooms ONLY. When the day came that they were going to spray our place, they went into our bedrooms which was holding our food, dishes, and bathroom items, took pictures of the bedrooms, showed it to the staff, and had the manager write us a rude and accusatory letter saying that our home was basically a mess and possibly the cause of the roach issue. What since does that make? When we went to the manager, she was far from helpful and didn't even have an explanation for the misleading notice and lack of time given to do things right.
We can't forget to talk about the neighbors and the usual crowd that seems to be able to get into these "luxury" apartments. There's been plenty of nights that my family had to sleep with people playing loud music well into the night, smoking weed seeping through the walls and floors, and arguments leading out into the breezeway where it's MUCH LOUDER. In the lease, it states that grilling is suppose to be a certain distance from the building but on multiple occasions there were people grilling right in front of the entrance of the buildings. There are people with small children that live in these apartments but they have to walk past open fire grills just to get to their home?
Other issues plaguing this place is lack of maintenance during cold weather. Our building had two sides for parking. We usually parked along the back and during cold weather the back wood stairs along with the concrete stairs would be glazed with ice or snow. Maintenance never salted those stairs or did anything to make the back entrance safe. On multiple occasions people have fallen on the wooden stairs and concrete stairs. Luckily no one was seriously injured but it could've been worse.
This place seems to attract violence whether it's from cars being vandalized, apartments being broken into, or gun shots ringing out in the middle of the night. Again, people have small children living in these apartments but it's far from safe and not worth the outrageous amount of rent being charged.
Everything said here is years of having to deal with this place until it was time to finally leave. I'm happy to say that I've left West Mint (formally Colonial Village at Greystone). Whoever is in charge of this Google page, I ask that you save me the generic apologetic reply. I don't care for it cause I know it means nothing. I'm content with not having to live in...
