Haven’t climbed much in almost 30 years due to work and family. Came into this experience with a wide open mind not knowing exactly how it would be structured. Did a bit of review on setting up climbing anchors before I started. The first day Joe showed and explained to me a ton on information on building anchors and aiding techniques. He did it in a logical and systematic fashion having me review and demonstrate myself. He also had me try a roof crack that I never would have tried, even in my prime. With a few falls, lots of rests and a ton of perseverance I got up it.
Fast forward to big wall day. Joe picked a route that was unbelievable! Obviously he believed I could do it or we wouldn’t have been there but I had some serious doubts about my ability to get up it. Just a little back story here. My good friend and climbing partner Gabe and I were talking about getting into big wall climbing back in the 90s. We did a few easy routes but then life got in the way and the dream died. Sadly we lost him to suicide a few years ago so this trip was a pilgrimage to honour him. Well with his memory and Joe’s awesome confidence inspiring encouragement I was able to reach the top, although completely gassed. I’ve done a lot of cool things in my 54 years but honestly that day on the wall with Joe is hands down my favourite experience ever! I will forever remember all the details of this thrilling experience in vivid detail.
Well I’m already planning to return again next year for another adventure with Joe. A huge thank you to The Mountain Guides and to Joe for offering such an incredible experience. Coming from Canada I find that regulations and insurance stipulations have made experiences very mundane. Hats off to you guys for having the cajones and most importantly the incredibly skilled staff to give your customers a completely safe thrill of a lifetime. It wasn’t cheap but omg worth every penny and more. Keep up the good work and I’ll see...
Read moreTaylor was an excellent guide for our rock climbing trip. My friends and I came with rock climbing experience ranging from beginner to advanced and Taylor was able to find something appropriately challenging for each of us. After weather cancelled our climbing trip in Salt Lake a couple days prior, Taylor was flexible and allowed us to upgrade our Moab climb from a half-day climb to a full day climb with less than 24 hours notice.
As a guide Taylor mastered the delicate balance of providing the exact right amount of guidance for each member of our group. He is clearly experience and knew when to give feedback and when not to, that is a very difficult skill to master. He was neither overbearing or aloof. We all felt like we climbed our best that day and that we gained confidence as climbers. And of course the most important thing is that we felt completely safe...
Read moreWe climbed for a day in Moab with Paddy, my 13 year old daughter and her friend. We had so much fun, Paddy helped us to learn crack climbing technique and challenged us. He was super knowledgeable, really good with the teens, and a lot of fun. We then did a canyoneering day with him and another guide John and our two families, including the teens and two 9 year olds. Some of our group was nervous to rappel and the guides were so patient and supportive. Everyone rappelled and was proud of their accomplishments and we had a wonderful day. This is a fantastic company with elite level guided, I highly recommend...
