Yes, you can pay an incredibly low price for stuff by winning online auctions. But, imo, it's not worth the gas & time to drive there and back. And it definitely isn't worth the experience whilst there. Obviously, I did not have the best experience, lol. When my son and I went to pick up what I had won, an employee approached us and offered help to find our items. (They have a letter/number system to organize the products). HE REEKED OF ALCOHOL! He didn't act drunk, so I'm thinking he probably wasn't drinking on the job. But, maybe he had a looooong drinking session the night before? I dunno. It was in the evening...but anyhow. He had a hard time locating the items, also(not that he didn't try amid his time commenting on his amazement of my age and getting caught staring at my breasts several times🤮)! You're supposed to be able to use the MacBid app to find your things. But, it was of no help. Oh, and in the meantime, my son found something there that he wanted to buy. So, he put in a bid and won it! But, guess what? Even though he HAD THE ITEM IN HIS HANDS, he had won the auction & paid it off completely right then and there, he wasn't allowed to take it with us when we left. So, we had to make another trip there and back. Also, don't dare accidentally mess up and double bid on something! God forbid you do that! You are then responsible to pay for it. Even if you're brand new and had never made the mistake before. How do I know? Cuz I had made a bid for an item. I didn't think that it had gone through because it didn't confirm my bid. So, I figured that it hadn't gone through. I bid again. That time, it did confirm my bid. Well, apparently my bid had been accepted both times and I was expected to pay for both. It was a complete mistake which, honestly wasn't my fault-it was their system not giving me the correct info. I even directly wrote them an email explaining what had happened, basically begging for forgiveness, and was told that I still owed the money and that was their policy. I could not just pay for 1 of the items, which I offered to do. No. Instead the options were to pay for both items, or never do business with them again. Well, I don't know if it's still on that shelf or not. But, I can guarandamntee you that I didn't go pick it up and pay for it. It's illogical and makes the bidder feel like a complete idiot. Now I could understand if they had someone double bid by accident 2+times. Apparently, that person didn't learn their lesson the first time. But, the way I was treated as a customer made it so that I never want to do business with them again. And I won't. The item is already sitting on the shelf. It's not like it would be tied up in shipping or something. There wouldn't be a restocking fee. Just throw it back into your system and let it be auctioned again. Instead, they chose to lose a customer who, as you can see, does Google reviews and would've gladly written a review about the mess up and how generous they had been in forgiving my folly. Nope. Instead here I am miffed and writing a negative review. I wonder how many other customers they lost because of this poorly written policy🤔 The descriptions that they give in writing on the app/site aren't always accurate either. One of my winning bids that I picked up that night were 6 solar yard lights. The description said that they were simply an open box unit. That they were completely intact and worked fine. Bull. When I got them home and opened up the package, every single one was either missing a piece or completely cracked! No, I didn't ck them before I brought them home because I trusted that the description of the item I bid on was the item I was given to take home. Well, it wasn't. I'd give them negative stars if it were possible.....
Oh and to the owner who keeps giving every negative review on here the same response, don't bother wasting your time cutting and pasting it here, k? Have a nice day losing customers because of your...
Read moreFirst time going to macbid today. I understand where a lot of the reviews are coming from both positive and negative.
Summary if you don't want to read: if you're a gambling kind of person who can check things out ahead of time, buy the assurance, or perform some minor fixes on things, this will likely be fun for you, and I bet you can score some great deals!
Item - decided to get something cheap to try it out so got a litter genie open box. Two parts were broken and the refills and springs were missing. I was able to glue two parts in place and take springs off of our old one so it works. I don't think it's reasonable that someone inspecting it in probably 30 seconds would be able to tell that it wasn't perfect so I'm cool with that.
Listing accuracy - open box can be incomplete or broken, and it was. I could have inspected it ahead of time but didn't. The listing did show the manufacturer image and the picture of the item box so it was correct! I can definitely see that you could think you were getting a 5 shelf book shelf and got a 3 shelf one instead though. For the people who ordered say a crock pot and ended up with a crock pot box holding shoes, I wonder if potential buyers inspecting items switched them around on purpose. It doesn't make any sense to me that a macbid employee would purposely do something like that or make that big of a mistake.
Fees - wasn't expecting this but didn't comb the website completely so that's on me
Building - building was so overwhelming! Once you get the hang of it though it's not hard to find what you're looking for. It is labelled a little weird in the sense that aisles G,H,and I are by the front door and then it goes A-F after that. We were trying to find H and went too far back to a place we weren't supposed to accidentally 😬
Employees - the people at the welcome and check out desks were super friendly. The employee who told us we weren't allowed in the back was a bit short with us. I apologized and asked where aisle H was (that's when we learned it was in the front and we walked right past it). He just kind of looked at me the whole time like I was an idiot 🤷 I bet they encounter a lot of people cruising around doing crazy stuff on purpose though so that would irritate me too if I was him.
Suggestion: it would be cool if you could put a big sign outside the door before you walk in where it says simple stuff for first timers like: here's the layout of the store, get your barcode ready, find your item on your own, and bring it to the other door to get checked before you go. I bet it would decrease the number of people aimlessly wandering around getting into trouble like we did and save the employees some hassle.
Overall I probably won't buy anything from macbid again by no fault of theirs. I could have spent $10 more to order this item from Amazon from my couch and gotten a brand new one that I didn't have to spend 20 minutes fixing. Like I said though if that's your thing it's great, and you...
Read moreFirst i would have given a one star...but i do understand the type of business this is so the three stsr is accurate for the item i got...just bought a hand truck..listed as like new...the flat free tire has a flat spot that causes the truck to bounce and wobble...how is that like new...you would think that to claim like new you would check how a hand truck rolls..as that is the one big thing it is supposed to do..a tire is not a big deal but the claim of like new was not accurate...oh yes I know they tell you to inspect an item before you bid...but I have been to 3 locations to inspect an item and was basicly told I cant...the employees I delt with seemed very unwilling to help...yet every listing gives inspection time right in the auctions info...when I ask for help in getting the location of an item they could have cared less...
So as to the response from mac bid....1,,, I said i understand the type of business it is so I understand these are returned items and as such are in any type of condition...good, bad or worse...2,, the item in question was listed as like new...that is where the discrepancy comes in...if all that is going to be done to list something like new is to look at it...then as in this case the description of like new is very misleading....especially when the one big thing that this item is supposed to do apparently was never checked...that is why the 3 star review...like I said in the review it fits the item I received....now as for the inspection of items...I have tried to go inspect items and have been unable to as stated in the review...so the response about inspecting is really dull and void if you can't get to inspect items even when going to locations and asking...lastly I am not at all up set with the item or the way the auction goes...what I am upset about is the like new condition listing in which this...
