I've shopped the old store a lot of years... and as long as it's there, I suppose I always will. It's long been my favorite grocery store... It hasn't got all the bells and whistles the big box stores have... and that's the point of it. What it does have is great customer service, a small town feel, and people who value you as a customer. The store I love doesn't have a single self check out lane... no video sales pitches on the counters... and it doesn't cover three miles of turf... and to be honest those are all things I love about it. They probably don't carry Shelton's English Toffee Coffee, but... they do have IGA products... and having grown up with IGA, and A&P... well that has a certain nostalgic value to me. They don't have six cart wide aisles in the meat section... but the do have a much wider selection of quality cuts of everything from Beef to Lobster. They carry real pickling spices, real flour and real yeast... and I can still get shaving soap for my brush and pestle set. They carry the brands I remember and trust... and if I don't know where something is... the crew is always ready to show me where what I need or want is. THAT'S SERVICE... not just, "It's somewhere over by aisle 45..." Maybe I'm old fashioned but I like it when the stocker, the butcher, the cashier know me, and the things I like. I like it when they ask me how I'm doing, or how a recipe turned out. I like feeling like I matter as much to them, as they do to me. SO sure... it's a little drive down the road from my house in Hubert to the Town & Country IGA in Newport, North Carolina, on the left side of HWY 24... But you know what, it's worth the drive. Good businesses usually are. If you miss the way grocery stores used to be back in the day... or just the pleasure of a simple shopping trip where you are just another ant on the mound... Stop by and check them out... Locally owned, and great service... I don't think any of us can ask for anything more than that. Have a great night and an even better day...
Read moreMy Wife worked here briefly and had to resign due to a toe being amputated. Kim, who works there, stated she didn't care about her toe. The owner, Paul, purposely attacked a previous employee, threw us out the store, tried to get us arrested, then threatened to bust our windshield out our car, stood behind our vehicle so we couldn't leave, took pictures of our license plate. This Owner, Paul, was rude, loud and hateful because we were there to pick up a sheet of paper staying she did worked there. Paul refused and caused us to loose EBT benefits through the DSS department. This same Owner, Paul, now refuses to give this previous employee her pay history which is causing me to not get paid my SSI on time because I'm disabled. Do not ever work for this guy or shop there. Paul and Kim should be held accountable for their actions. Zero remorse and every time you call, Paul's on vacation. A very bad business and Owner. Do not ever recommend this store...

I have gotten bad sausage and today i went and got a pack of liver pudding and when i got home i started to open it and it was moldy!! I will be carrying it back tomorrow for a refund now I know it's hard to check dates on all the meat products that vendors bring in but someone needs to pay more attention to that! About 6 months ago I went and got two packs of sausage that a vendor had brought in and got it home and it was rotten! Please do something about checking dates on vendor...
