2022 Review: It turns my stomach to write this review, but a 5-star experience on a 2019 project has turned into a disaster for an attempted 2021/2022 project. The upfront communication and project planning was great. Once money was exchanged, the experience was completely different and all downhill. In my 22 years of homeownership, I have never had such a bad experience with a contractor. I am in disbelief with the dishonesty and lack of professionalism I have experienced over the last year. Completely opposite experience from 3 years ago. I chose Andy based on the first project going well. I had no reason to believe I was going to be taken advantage of on my kitchen project. [My original 5-star review remains part of this edit for reference. See below.]
In early November of 2021, I provided a 75% down payment towards the project of new granite counter tops in my kitchen. Andy told me the project would be done in several weeks. The first installation window came and went with no granite, nor any contact from Andy. When I inquired about the status, I was told the job would be done “next week”. This theme repeated several more times, until I finally canceled the project in late January 2022, after FOUR missed promises to work my job. Upon canceling the project, I requested a refund of my money. Andy promised SEVEN times he would provide me a check. A year later, I still am out $4,000.
In February 2022, I submitted a complaint thru the Better Business Bureau, thinking they could help mediate the situation. Andy did not respond to the BBB, and the complaint was closed/unresolved. I then sent a certified mail demand letter. Oddly, the USPS could not deliver it and Andy never picked it up at the post office after notification of a certified letter awaiting him. In late May, I filed a small claims case in St. Charles County. You can review the case (#2211-SC00095) on Missouri Casenet. The court date was July 19, 2022. I was there. Andy wasn’t.
Andy provided many excuses along the way. A sampling: • "Sorry we have been slammed! Can't catch a break" • Flat tire on the trailer • “Really sick this past week” • "I tore my rotator cuff" • "Kids these days don't want to work anymore" • "Communication should have been better"
Despite all the “issues” Andy had preventing him from working my granite job, during the timeframe of November 2021 to July 2022, he appeared to be very busy working other projects. This was evident on social media posts:
As I stated upfront in my review, it turns my stomach that I am here today, 1 day short of a full year since I contracted with Andy for a granite project. Andy hasn’t refunded my $4,000 and I have gone through a lot of effort attempting to recover my loss. I am writing this review to provide awareness to others.
Original 2019 review: I wanted a small granite countertop for my basement finishing project. Andy sent me some digital photos of remnants he had that would fit my requirements. I visited his shop on a Friday afternoon to see them in person. I agreed shortly after and he was able to install the next day after another job nearby. Andy was very professional, honest, fair and easy to work with. I look forward to a bigger project replacing my kitchen counters...
Read moreWorst customer service ever!! If you would like to be yelled at every time you ask about updates on your countertop job, Andy is the answer, if you would like to NOT use your kitchen for couple of weeks then hire Andy from granite design. He told me it will take couple of days to remove and install the new stone, it took him couple of weeks to do that, I told him what kind of kitchen sinks I wanted and he waited till the last minute of installation to order them which puts the project back longer and longer. He kept telling me that he is coming the next day at certain time and never shows up, I’ll tell you one thing he is good at telling, lies and giving himself excuses for NOT or NEVER showing up on time. If you ask me, I think I wasted a good 12 grand on my kitchen countertops. I could of got it in lesser time, lesser stress and a more professional job somewhere else, don’t let him fool you with his confidence about his job like how he fooled me. Even overall, the job wasn’t the best after 2 weeks of suffering and the granite wasn’t a straight line cut as it should have been and when I asked him, he blamed the stone not himself for sure. He asked for 2/3 of the cost in advance and after he took the money he was completely a different person just because he...
Read moreAndy did our granite a short while ago. We couldn't be happier with our newly updated kitchen! His bid was fair and the job was completed faster than expected. He installed new granite countertops with an extension for a counter height bar, new faucet/stainless steel sink, and beveled cut stone subway tile. Brian, his tile guy, also did an exceptional job also. It all looks fantastic!
We did run into a snag when the granite didn't sit flush on top of my cabinets (due to the older cabinets, not the stone). There was a gap that we were unaware of because of the old countertops. Andy went above and beyond to correct this issue. He took a door off then went to a cabinet maker. Had a piece of wood stained to match and inserted it in the gap. Not only does the stain match EXACTLY but the piece fits in perfectly. Not that easy considering it tapered off at each end. To this day I'm still not sure how he accomplished that. Andy is a nice guy, easy to work with, will do whatever it takes to get the job done right and seems to truly care that you are 100% happy with his work. He's even more of a perfectionist than I am ( which I found hard to believe). In short, you won't be disappointed when you hire Andy, he will make sure of it. Thanks again...
