The hike to the summit of Pemetic Mountain was the most difficult hike we took throughout our Acadia adventures and it was very rewarding. We started our hike at the Jordan Pond North parking lot and followed the east side of Jordan Pond up to the Jordan Pond Carry Trail. After a forested moderate climb up we crossed Park Loop Rd and started the ascent up the Pemetic NW Trail. There is a major boulder field which probably lasts around 150 vertical feet that was quite challenging but doable. You keep climbing up sparsely wooded rock faces until you reach the summit. At the summit you are rewarded with views of Jordan Pond and the Atlantic. We then followed the Pemetic Mountain ridgeline to the South and back to the parking lot. Read moreAs shared previously, Northwest is tough--fairly steep with lots of scrambling. Wouldn't recommend it after a rain or particularly dewy night.
I took it both ways and it took more time coming back down.
There is a fun split in the trail about half way up. I used the ledge going up and the ravine going down without issues.
