Second Time Books — Local services in Mount Laurel Township

Books/reading have been one of the greatest loves of my life, so in my fifty years, I have visited MANY bookstores. Second Time Books is, without doubt, one of the best bookstores I have had the pleasure to visit. I stopped by the store last week on my way to New York and fell in love! To borrow some famous words, this bookstore is “practically perfect in every way”. The store is organized in a logical and intuitive manner. The shelves and sections are clearly labeled, making any genre of book easy to find. The store is clean and does not smell of musk, or mildew, which anyone who visits second-hand bookstores has come to expect. The books are in great condition, reasonably priced, and beautifully displayed. Between the friendly staff, inviting atmosphere and comfy chairs Second Time Books just welcomes in the reader like an old friend. This bookstore is the type of store you will want to spend your day exploring. Honestly, if there had been a room upstairs, I would have wanted to move in. Although my visit to the store was a quick stop over, the truth is that for any bibliophile like me, this bookstore is a destination in and of itself. I live in Maryland, about 2.5 hours away from the store, but believe me when I say I will be driving that distance to visit this store again and again. For long-time book-lovers, this bookstore will remind you why we love independent bookstores and why they need to be preserved. I have been meaning to write this review for a while but kept forgetting. Well, as I sit here wrapping some amazing Christmas gifts recently purchased from Second Time Books, I've been reminded and feel compelled to leave a review. So here goes.

This place is really a treasure. I am so lucky it is relatively close to me. They have a phenomenal selection of books, but I was especially awed by their impressive collection of science fiction and fantasy. One could spend a considerable amount of time browsing that section alone, but the whole store is packed with great finds.

The books themselves are in great condition and obviously well-cared for. I have been in bookstores where that is sadly not the case, but you can tell the owner or owners here must be very passionate about books.

This review may seem a little odd but I had one of the best experiences of my life in this bookstore. My fiancée and I got engaged here. She loves books and after a previous reservation fell through last second I ran in here, morning of, and asked if there was a way I could compensate them to stay open a bit later to let me pop the question here. Brandon was so kind and quickly let me know he’d love to help! With some setup assistance from my sister, parents and friend, we managed to turn my last second unfortunate venue cancellation into an incredible proposal that my fiancée absolutely loved! None of this would’ve been possible without the generous help from Brandon. Anyone willing to go to this length to help someone they’ve never met out is surely a business I’ll gladly support!
