I love this store and I love the guys working here.
I have a 6 year old boy and last Christmas, I bought him his first set of LIonels. I also had inherited all of my father's Lionels that were 80 years old and in need of repair as the old wiring was in bad shape.
I actually did zero research about the store as the guys have an impeccable reputation. Any time I told people that I had old Lionels in need of repair, they told me to go immediately to the Train Station.
I packed up a few pieces, brought them to the store and I found that the guys were extremely professional, extremely knowledgeable, and lived up to the buzz that they have on the street. They are highly reputable.
After my first experience, I brought all of my dad's locomotives to get either serviced or fixed. Two out of three of them did not work. The one that did work was the oldest and I suggested that it should get serviced as well, just because the others needed servicing. They guys turned me away stating that they don't like to earn their money that way. They said that they can make anything work, and described how well the old toys really were built. They told me that since they can make anything work, I should bring it back when and if it no longer does.
Since then, I purchased two brand new sets for my son among a ton of other accessories as well as some vintage Lionel equipment. I also have shown the guys the current way the trains are set up and they always give me suggestions on how I can make the setup better.
They also love to show off the trains in the store and their smiles always match that of my son as they watch the trains go around.
I would think of no other store when considering anything Lionel related. I enjoy going to the store, I enjoy dealing with reputable professionals, and I love talking to people who love what they do. I am so happy I heeded everyone's advice and I would advise...
Read moreThe Train Station is an excellent supplier and service center for all generations of customer and toy trains. Kids young and old will find their visit gratifying. Whether you are considering the first set for your child, or if only run trains around the tree on holidays, or all year around on a permanent layout, this is a place you need to visit. Regardless if you prefer to run modern operating equipment or prefer to run “the old school way” from the post war years, the staff can advise, fix, equip or outfit for your needs. The train station is a true value added reseller. The product line, new and old collectable is largely Lionel, their offerings and expertise go well beyond. They can repair and revive almost any train of any vintage. The pre and post-sales support of all they sell, including their post and pre-war trains, is the best I have experienced within Northern N.J. The Staff and service center are highly knowledgeable in a wide array of generations and makers of trains and equipment. In addition to sales and service, The Train Station can also build layouts for customers. If you have some old trains that need repair, just like collecting, or you operate a large modern layout, or you are considering buying first outfit of ready to run trains, I advise you make a stop at...
Read moreGoing here is like the train version of going to Walmart. Tons of selection, great sales, horrible (and I mean AWFUL) customer service. This normally isn't a problem since you probably should already know what you want in this hobby, but it's still irritating. I remember one time I went there I asked if they had any G gauge stuff hanging around, (which to be fair is a long shot since it's a lionel place) the response I got was "who wants to know?" I went there today and the guy thought I stole something. I DID NOT steal anything. (I wasn't even there to buy, I was trying to get rid of stuff.) So I went back inside to try to prove my innocence, but he was already convinced I was guilty. All he kept saying was "I'll check the monitors later". And then what? Call me up to ask for it back or say sorry? I'm here NOW I said, but he didn't get it.
I REALLY don't want to go back there because I think they all hate me because I'm under the age of 40, but I probably will. They still have a lot of great stuff, and let's be honest, most of the other model train stores hate me for being...
