Tonight I went to the Mountain Lakes Station, for my girlfriend's 55th birthday dinner. We were a table of four. We sat outside on the patio atmosphere was amazing. As soon as we arrive the staff and everybody that greeted us was very pleasant and friendly. We ordered drinks and some appetizers everything was perfect. When the entrees did come out my girlfriend's daughter who happens to be 25 years old notice her steak was medium well as opposed to medium a little overcooked. When the server asked how everything was she expressed the fact that the steak was overcooked. The waiter immediately apologized and took the steak back and said he would take care of it quickly. About 2 minutes later the manager came out and I have never seen anything like it. He started debating how the steak was cooked when she simply expressed the fact that it was not so much pink inside and more well done he started telling her no that's how it should be and it tastes delicious, as if actually tasted the steak himself, this went on for about 3 or 4 minutes then he finally explained oh we don't have any more Ribeyes would you like something else. At that point she was so disgusted she said no I'm good and started sharing her sisters entree. After sitting for a few minutes she started to feel very disrespected by the managers attitude, so she got up went inside and spoke with him at greater length and he continued to do the same thing. I just can't believe such a nice high-end restaurant in Mountain Lakes has the manager debating how the customer feels about the meal they were served, you thought he would have just come outside apologize and said I'll make it right no he wouldn't do that. The waiter actually came out afterwards and did apologize for the managers attitude and we did get the next round of drinks on the house which I thought was very nice. Again food was delicious, great atmosphere. If it wasn't for the manager I certainly would have given it five stars, again I've never seen a manager come out and debate how the customer feels about the meal they were served. He definitely...
Read moreMy wife was reserving a table for my 60th birthday dinner. By a happy accident we ended up at The Station at Mountain Lakes. I had been wanting to try the Boonton Station restaurant and she just remembered me saying the Station when she went on Opentable to reserve. Up popped The Station in Mountain Lakes and she booked a table for five. Once she realized her mistake she told me and I said I've always wanted to try this restaurant too. So we kept the reservation and I was so glad we did. The building is wonderful, an old stone train station. We were quickly seated and drinks were ordered. Only issue we had is we were seated at the base of the stairs next to the setup station and coffee bar. It was a bit noisy and lots a traffic but we realized our reservation was last minute and the place is not that large so we were glad that they were able to accommodate us. Appetizers we had were the Fried Calamari, Seared Ahi Tuna and the Wild Mushroom/Sausage Puff which was one of the most amazing bites a food. Entrees enjoyed were the Hanger Steak, Tilapia Oreganate, Penne with chicken and the Stuffed Pork chop. The manager Carlos came over to see how everything was and I told him that the Pork Chop was probably one of the best I ever had. He explained to me how it is prepared and the steps involved to get the proper sear on the outside and keep the inside moist and the stuffing contained. A short time later he returned with the head chef/owner who was very glad I enjoyed it as this is one of his specialties. We had some dessert so the family could sing to me and we wanted to do a birthday shot. Carlos suggested chilled Patron which is the way to go if drinking Tequila, chilling makes it so smooth. So glad we ended up at The Station and look forward to many...
Read moreSeriously a good place to dine in on Valentine's Day, or any day that fancies you. My husband booked our reservation via the Open Table app a week before Valentine's Day - we took the 5PM slot to avoid traffic. Getting there was a breeze, with ample parking slots; and we were then seated promptly at a nice corner by the right wing of the restaurant.
Tip: Main entrance is a bar, so head out towards the stairs where you will find the receptionist who will lead you to your table.
Servers were nice and efficient--always making sure you have what we need.
The table set up was charming, and spacious enough for 4 people. The rose was a nice touch too so that was a plus!
We ordered Arugula Salad as a starter, and had three entrées: Shrimp and Spinach, then followed by Seafood Scallop Provoncale and Sirloin Steak. We finished it off with chocolate cake (which was a huge portion!) and I was eager to taste their Signature coffee concoction called "The Station Coffee" a warm coffee drink with hazelnut, caramel cream and a spike of whiskey. Everything was delicious and promptly served! My hubby and I were so full we just wanted to sleep after hahaha!
Also, you can change what goes with your entrees - like swap spinach with rice or broccoli, just make sure you ask :)
And if you're lucky - you may just see the train passing by because the restaurant was literally a train station before and still has the train stop next to it. How cool is that?
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting to spend a lovely, fine dining experience with a great ambience, satisfying food, and excellent service!
Thank you...
