I arrived on a Tuesday late afternoon. When I walked into the market I was immediately met by a gentleman asking if he could help me, but it felt more of suspicion than customer service. Mind you I was dressed in a suit. I proceeded to look around and purchase two bags of ravioli a large container of sauce and I made my way to the deli counter where I asked for a small amount of pepperoni. Of which seem to be a major inconvenience to the woman working. She immediately suggested I purchase the pre-sliced from the refrigerator but it looked quite old. With a large deep sigh she said OK I will be with you in a minute., The other gentleman who met me at the door at this point was behind the counter and very aggressively asked me if there was anything else I needed. As I’m looking around gathering more items to purchase he seemed quite cold and offset with the lady ahead of me. When I got my turn at the register I asked him for the bakery cookies of which I purchased many options . This again must’ve been a inconvenience for him because he was as cold as the frozen ravioli I was purchasing. I purchased my items but I left in dismay, that a small market would offer such a dismal and poor service. They were rude, standoffish and made it very clear that they really did not like people shopping there. They made me feel uncomfortable as well as I felt bad that I was interrupting their day by becoming a customer. One thing I am sure of they made me feel 100% like I was a bother to them. Now I truly understand why people are moving away from markets like these. I would rather drive to Chicago then be treated poorly, made to feel unwelcome, as well as feeling like spending my money there was an inconvenience to them.
Now for my review, it is overpriced, although the cheese and the ravioli was tasty the ravioli had been frozen for far too long and some edges were freezer burnt, the sauce was the spicy spaghetti sauce it was like tomato juice, I had to add money ingredients when I started to cook it. To make it palatable. The bakery cookies were extremely inedible due to the rancid flavor, that they had, I did purchase an assortment of them but they all tasted alike. They had a distinct flavor of being very old, with a side note of being poorly made. The pepperoni was good , but only good not great considering it came from a small Italian market. Actually the best thing I purchased there was the Italian bread in a red and white bag, that was made in a factory someplace else. Will I return, it will only be two order Chinese food when this place finally goes out of business and becomes a Asian restaurant. Maybe they will get hired and learn customer service,. Thank you for reading my review have a...
Read moreOn Mother’s Day, I ordered food from Zeppe’s. I have been a customer for years. It only made sense to let them do the cooking. I pre-ordered a full tray of spinach lasagna and a half tray of sausage & meatballs. I picked up my order the morning of Mother’s Day, as well a container of marinara from the refrigerated case,. The only thing I needed to do was cook the lasagna and meat in the oven before heading over to my sister’s house. Eleven of us gathered for Mother’s Day and there was plenty of food. I didn’t need a full tray of lasagna. I think I could’ve gotten away with a half tray, but there was plenty of leftovers for everyone. The food was a huge hit! Everybody raved about the lasagna. Being 100% Italian, we are very particular about our Italian food. The Italian sausage also had great flavor. The owner, Giuseppe, helped me in placing my order. He was very friendly and accommodating. I do have to say it was pretty pricey, $175 for the lasagna, meat and extra marinara. However, it would cost a lot more going to a restaurant to feed 11 people. If you need a quick meal, stop at the store; there are plenty of options like eggplant parmesan, lasagna, stuffed shells, manicotti, etc. They have pizza dough on hand and a variety of pasta sauces as well. One of my favorite things is their bruschetta mix in the deli. It’s one of the best; I don’t make my own anymore. I love their Italian fish salad at Christmastime, too. I also go to Zeppe’s for fresh bread, fresh or dried pasta, Alessi food products, cannolis, Italian cookies, etc. It’s so great to have an Italian store close by with great food. Whether you order food for a party or family gathering, or just stop by for a small prepared meal to bring home for dinner, you can’t go wrong...
Read moreI coincidentally visited the store and I was so glad I did. It is my first time visiting the store actually after doing something I needed and definitely not the last visit. I actually heard few good things about this store from my friends before. This small store is clean and definitely an authentic Italian store. They have nice selection of baked goodies, deli, cheese, homemade sauces, pasta and even sandwiches! The staff in here is friendly and helpful and told me that their goodies especially their baked goodies and sandwiches are freshly made daily. I was so excited to try them after hearing about it. I got one sandwich and few of their pastries and the prices are very reasonable. Their pastries are seriously so good especially the cannoli. The cold sandwich I got was good too. Everything is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place especially to those who love Italian goodies and I can guarantee that they...
