James and Ann Whitall House Museum — Local services in National Park

We attended the Hearth Cooking Class yesterday 2/1/25. It was great. Not too crowded. Authentic open hearth cooking. We got to eat what we prepared and were shown how to cook it in the Whitall House's open hearth. We also got a guided tour of the house, history, and recent archeological discoveries on the site. Just left their revolution battle enactment with an animal farm for kids. They had food trucks, a maze, balloon animals and story telling. Was truly a blast. Not too crowded. They really care about their community and it shows. Such a pleasure. Unlike larger money grab places that deceive you and dont even have water at their event, place begins with a D, this was an event that will put a smile on your child's face and set you up for the week! My husband & I participated in the Hearth Cooking activity with 6 other people. (Must reserve in advance & cost was $40/person.) The 8 of us attendees prepared food dishes for the various menu items. Thankfully, the 3 GC historical society members did the actual cooking at the hearth while we got a tour throughout the home. Then we ate our wonderful meal together!
