As farmers, and as long-time readers, fans and friends of Wendell and Tanya Berry, we are very glad to see this website for The Berry Center, which will probably prove itself to be a necessary step in reaching out to the next generation of Wendell's readers and followers. We fully respect and understand Wendell's lifelong choice to use print rather than other forms of communication, particularly computers and television. We are more than a bit concerned ourselves with the many issues concerning loss of privacy that the internet has introduced. That he has allowed and encouraged his daughter to reach out to the next generation, to establish this new way to communicate with the public, particularly with younger people through the internet, is another courageous step for Wendell Berry, as was his appearance on Bill Moyers' television broadcast. We are greatly reassured to learn that Mary Berry is willing to speak out as a farmer, and to actively promote and communicate about sustainable methods of farming.
