TraElle Hair Salon — Local services in New Orleans

I have been going to this salon off and on for a few years, but have (for the most part) always gotten my hair washed and styled by Ariel G. The reason I am giving it 2 stars and not more, is because of my latest experience with her. To give some context, I am 3 months postpartum, and have not taken the greatest care of my hair, admittedly. When I was about 7 months pregnant, my hair was a tangled mess, because I didn't have the energy, nor the strength to deal with it. Ariel G. was VERY patient, and because of this, and the great conditioning, I gave her a $40 tip, at my insistence, to show my appreciation. I guess my kind gesture paved the way for her to charge customers an extra $35 to detangle their hair, without them knowing-until at the very end of their service, which is what happened to me, on my last visit.

My hair wasn't nearly disagreeable as it had been during my pregnancy, but it wasn't fantastically easy to work with, either. I can admit this, but what was supposed to be a $48 wash & style, though, ENDED UP BEING $93, all because she didn't bother to communicate detangling was an extra charge (I would've gladly paid an extra $15-$20 for the work, but $35 is blatant gouging for slightly past shoulder-length hair). She had several opportunities to let me know of the price change, but glossed over the total amount for the service, as if she had been talking about the weather! On top of that, the style has not lasted like it normally has, and on day 4 (when other similar styling lasted at least a week), I've resorted to my standard ponytail. When you first walk in, you notice the calm atmosphere. No loud conversations, only the TV playing. Very clean. Shields between dryer chairs. No strong odors. My stylist, Tawana, was excellent. First, I am not the client. I am the husband of the client. My wife walks out of TraElle Hair Salon and she still makes my heart skip a beat. Tracie has her hair so on point. It's fabulous. Tracie is a master artist in coloring, but my wife's color is her natural silver. I love it and I wait in the car. Which is awesome because it is never over 30-40 minutes. That is incredible...
