NOC Pigeon Outpost — Local services in Newport

Three reasons I am giving this 4 rather than 5 starts: 1-short duration, ours was done in one 1.5 hours so we really were on the river less than an hour. 2-For the most part the river is next to the highway so the noise takes away from the experience. 3-Our guide was good but can’t say he was entertaining or shared any stories or information about the area. We did not see any wildlife. The water is cold even in mid-August, but everyone still jumped in. The river had multiple category 3s and one category 4 so if you are experienced and want a thrill or challenge, the upper pigeon river in mid August will leave you unsatisfied. It gets very shallow and slow after the exit point too so this river overall is not that much fun in the summer but does get wilder depending on when they release more water from the...

Safety is a big concern and they have all the equipment and personnel to take you down the river safely. When you arrive you check in and get a 15 minute briefing on what to expect. Then you go on a nice bus ride my driver was John O” and he knows how to drive that bus and also give you a little history lesson on the area and some tips on where to go to play in the water. All the guides are amazing however I want to recognize Sarah who took an experienced family out and gave us an amazing time guiding the boat in the right direction skimming the sides of the areas as if she was a racecar driver running along the Apex but in a small river raft. It’s a nice hour and a half ride and don’t worry your kids won’t fall out unless they really want to jump out. Great place for a family to start their river...

Absolutely awesome experience! We brought our 4 year old son white water rafting on the lower Pigeon River. It was definitely easy and chill enough for him, and for me- as a first timer myself. Our son loved it! He's a little dare devil and he was having a blast! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Our guide, Brielle, was fantastic! She really knew what she was doing and how to maneuver the river. She was also great conversation and super friendly and kind to the kids- we were paired with another family with their two kids. The pictures also came out great! White water rafting has never been something I have been particularly interested in, but after this trip, I'd love to do it again. Maybe even the more difficult one!
