When I walked into Greentail Table in the Nonantum section of Newton over seven years ago I was very happy to see a shop specializing in gifts and home décor. I remember my first impression was that it reminded me of Crate and Barrel on a small scale but when perusing further I realized it offered an even more personal and interesting assortment of things all hand-picked by the owner Linda de Valpine. Linda has a great eye for merchandising and her store offers a terrific selection of things of interest for the home at reasonable price points. Over the years, I have also been impressed with the personnel as they are very courteous and helpful. Marilyn who has been there from the start has helped me on numerous occasions. It is the type of store that one can easily find a gift for even the pickiest of people because Linda has really good taste. I recently bought double-sided placemats that have a different shade of blue on each side and gave them as a birthday gift. My friend wrote me a thank you note and told me not to tell anyone but they were her very favorite present as they were pretty and practical and she said she would use them all the time. What a great store! Linda does a great job assembling an assortment of high quality, interesting, eye-catching, and functional housewares - it's fun just to step in and browse. In an era when shopping online is the usual way of doing things, it's so nice to be in a place that is skillfully curated and pleasant. This is a wonderful little gift and home goods store in the Nonantum area of Newton, just down the block from Swartz Hardware. I'm not one to go into these kinda of places on a regular basis, so when I need to get a tasteful gift quickly, this is the place I go first.
