Overall, a decent experience thus far. As a new customer, Mike took great care of my needs. He offered to show me a few different storage units at various sizes, price points, and locations. He clearly walked me through the payment policy and then we even walked to the unit again so I could practice accessing it.
I had called the previous day to check on availability and what to expect. Even so, there were a number of add on fee surprises which I wasn't told about earlier nor did I catch them on the website. Lock - I was told I could bring my own lock, but it wasn't specified that I needed to have it the day I signed the paperwork. They sell locks there but expect to pay over $16. Insurance - I've never heard of a renter being required to purchase insurance. (It's also been 10 years since I've had a storage unit, so maybe this is standard now.) Minimum amount will set you back another $11 a month. Administration fee - One time fee for setting up the account, I assume. I believe it was $24
I choose this facility based on location and price point. While I still am happy in the condition and security of the facility, I'm a bit bummed at the add on fees and the fact that they weren't disclosed until after I saw the units and was all set with which one...
Read moreIt's worth noting that when you get a price quote / reservation ahead of time, the quote is only good for a period of time (I believe it was 14 days) and if you move in even 1 day after that period, they change the price without notifying you. Prices change all the time based on supply and demand and can be quite different from the quote you reserved it for, so do your homework on prices and call other companies before you sign on the dotted line. Although E.S. is convenient, there are many storage lockers in the Boston area that are not national chains and may be cheaper.
I rented in July and August and found (from experience visiting the locker a few times on a hot day) that the 1st floor which claims it is "not climate controlled" feels the same temperature as the basement which is "climate controlled", and it could just be the lobby where staff are is on an A/C during office hours, but - just sayin... depending on the cost difference and the months you're renting a locker, you may want to save some money and effort and stay on the 1st floor for a lower price, because the basement involves a slow elevator.
The staff here are friendly but not terribly helpful. Questions I asked were often literally answered with a shrug and sometimes a response...
