Berkley Center — Local services in Norfolk

I’m giving 3 stars mainly because it’s close to my house, the store is very clean and the employees have been very friendly and helpful.

I’ve shopped here a couple of times since it opened. My first purchase was a loaf of bread and I believe some cheap cookies. The cookies were fine but the bread was molding after just 2 days of opening, most likely old stock. Second time I went there was for a Marie Calendars dinner but the selection was very limited and prices were way high. $2.50 at Walmart and almost $4.00 at Berkley SM so bought one to hold me over. I also needed to get some instant coffee and it was very pricey. An Edwards chocolate cream pie was almost $10 which Walmart sells for right under $6 so I ended up passing on that.

It’s like shopping at 7-11, prices are steep but you’re paying for “convenience”. You don’t go to 7-11 to grocery shop though. I understand that inventory for a private grocery store is going to cost more to stock than a Walmart, unfortunately for BSM it’s more convenient for me to stop at Food Lion on my way home from work and I know they’ll have what I need plus I can also save a little on MVP items. I never checked out the restaurant portion so I can’t speak on that. Hopefully things will work itself out and they can become...

It's as if you've entered a grocery store with highly talented employees that are all about customer service being put in an environment almost as closely described as of a circus, always see the same guy cleaning the dining room, always see management being unhelpful as always, they'll do everything in their power to try to talk you out of a refund and never tries to accommodate for any inconveniences, this was a store made for the community yet we're seeing premium products and high prices in a place that clearly doesn't need that, restaurant seems busy, but that's about it, and now I'm hearing most of the talent are slowly leaving the company slowly day by day, yeah, speak with your wallets people, sick of seeing companies hide behind a false idea that they're helping the community and yet they refuse to change, we're customers to them, nothing more, it was never about the community, just think about it, don't let them cheat you out of your wallet because they're hiding behind a false promise to help...

I really wanted to try this store and cafe because it’s for the people but we need to get it together! I did a little shopping before grabbing my food and ALL the registers were closed, the “cashiers” were all talking and I was walking around looking for checkout. Finally after checkout, I went to the cafe and the line was okay but we still had to wait 20-30 mins because they weren’t as prepared for lunch like they needed to be. When I finally got to the front, they told me it was a 15-20 min wait on fresh fish, chicken, wedges, pork chops and several sides so I just ended up ordering a side of spaghetti & pork chop dinner….. unseasoned, overcooked, salty, burnt and cold 😶 the only thing that really saved it was the cabbage but it wasn’t enough to make up for the $35 I spent in there.
