This is the closest and safest grocery store in Berkeley. Walking distance for so many people. And it could be an easy stop after work for all the ship workers and people who park in the area... but everything is way more expensive here and honestly pointless to shop here, unless you have benefits i think. essentially when there's a dollar tree next door. This place needs to drop prices! like $1-5 on everything. You're better off driving 15 minutes to another store or even paying a toll. I'll assume this place can't buy in bigger bulk, so prices are higher, but thats when they need to focus on less brand verity and ensure a more competitive pricing. Buy things the local community buys a lot of. This place is not a supermarket. it's just a wanna be. Start off as a market in this area! Even sell local items, this place will never compete in the supermarket world if they continue to do business the way they do. The best thing they got going is the restaurant, and thats only because there's not much to pick from in the armpit of norfolk. Im seeing a store with an Aldi setup doing very well here. Less verity but at a low price plus a stop for food! This place has potential, but it's not set up for this area right now. And it's not getting advertised to all the workers who park within the mile. They can have like a food happy hour for those who get off work right here ( not sure if they serve alcohol but that too). Then they can also go shopping before heading home. I see so much money from outside community pouring into this place... but not building a customer base is going to keep this place stagnant, probably betting on tax right off or something. Its black and veterans owned. Im black and a veteran and i sure as hell can't afford this place. After calculating what i normally buy I'd be spending a extra $30-50 a week on my groceries if I went here. Ain't nobody got that kinda money. Who is this store for? Cause it ain't for this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just left this supermarket and theyāll definitely be getting more of my money. Some things are slightly more expensive than chain super markets but Iāll pay the difference to support my people. Every single worker I encountered was SUPER nice and helpful. I really like the fact that they give back to the community and give seniors a place to come together and socialize over a free meal because it can get lonely at that age. I will say that Iām not the biggest fan of all the unhealthy food options because our community is already plagued with chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer but at least they have natural health remedies like seamoss and soursop bitters so thereās...
Read moreAwesome black-owned grocery market with all of the essentials. If you are looking to spend your hard earned $ to support local and boost our 757 economy, this is our place to shop! And the bonus is the delicious soul food you'll find in the Café on your way out. The line seemed to be consistently long on this Saturday afternoon, but that just gave me time to figure out what I was gonna get. Baked chicken, collards, and the mac & cheese. Let me tell you, I was in palette heaven with every bite! The portions are hefty. It took me 2 sit downs to finish this meal. The price, less than $20 with tip. Support local!! Let's get this market on the map to...
