Expert Coaching in an Inclusive Community
I consistently trained at CrossFit Augusta 3-4 times a week for six months. My observations from the many hours I spent at CFA are below:
Inclusive Community: CrossFit Augusta actively cultivates an environment that is uniquely accepting of athletes of all backgrounds and levels of familiarity with CrossFit. This spirit of inclusion is championed by all coaches on the staff and all members of the community.
Expert Coaching: Ward Reckhart (Head Coach) is the most knowledgable, skilled, and passionate coach that I have ever had the privilege of working with. I worked with Ward 1:1 3 times a week for six months. During that time, I not only learned important movements integral to functional fitness, but I also learned important lessons about myself. Ward set me on the path to become the athlete that I've always wanted to be: resilient, patient, and disciplined. He recognized and cultivated the athlete that I didn't know that I could be. In that manner, Ward's talent as a coach goes far beyond his expansive technical knowledge (olympic lifting, metabolic conditioning, performance based nutrition, strength training, etc.). Ward's true talent lies in being able to shape and mold those fortunate enough to be taught by him. Ward's dedication to his craft is infectious--the entire staff at CrossFit Augusta benefits from his presence.
Conclusion: CrossFit Augusta is not only welcoming to athletes of all skill levels, but it is also staffed with coaches that will bring positive change to all clients that step...
Read moreAfter years of inconsistency at the gyms, I spoke to Nikki (a coach at FitAugust) about my fitness goals. She suggested I try CrossFit. So I did. The first day, I immediately regretted my decision. My first workout was a hellish set of box jumps, squats, and other forms of torture that I NEVER experienced before. I felt weak, not good enough, not strong enough and out of place.
The first month or two I took a look at the workout prior to class and based on the workout, I would say “nope can’t do that, not going”. It was so bad that I missed a whole week!
Instead of running away from CrossFit, I do what I can. If I am unable to do a movement, I work at it every class and check it off my goals checklist. I have fitness goals like getting my kipping pull-ups and handstands push-ups/walks down. Do I compare myself to others? Of course, but in a way that I admire for their perseverance and try to emulate them!
FitAugusta showed me how I could actually have friends at the gym, and with their help I’ve been able to do more than alone. CrossFit proved that my value came not from my physical appearance but from my determination, will to not stoping, and will to...
Read moreWhat an incredibly welcoming and inclusive gym! I have been doing CrossFit for a little over a year and have never been outside my home gym. I was traveling for work during the Open 2022, and really wanted to compete, but I was SO nervous to drop in to a new place. I definitely did NOT need to worry!! I don't have that "typical" CrossFit body, but their website showed so many different body types, I knew I would be okay there. I reached out via email ahead of time and received an immediate response from George and Laura. They communicated with my constantly and made sure I was all signed up and ready to go when I arrived. The first FNL event was also my first time meeting everyone and they were just amazing! George, Laura, Ryan, and Hannah were all very kind and made sure I was safe and comfortable for each event. They even made sure I had a cheering section for each event since they knew I was there alone! I absolutely felt as if I belonged there! My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to do any other classes while I was in town!! I will most certainly go back any time I am in Augusta. You can count yourself lucky if this is...
