I've been taking kickboxing classes here 3-4x a week for 2.5 months now, and I highly recommend checking this place out. I was going to wait a little longer before writing a review, but I honestly do not see myself stopping any time soon.
The instructors are all so friendly and accommodating and really care about your progress. Chris makes me burn extra calories by making me laugh during workouts (just by being him, sorry not sorry Chris lol), Jennell is a genuine sweetheart, and Hannah's workouts are hard af (in the best possible way).
There's plenty of classes to choose from & no pressure to do anything more than what you've signed up for. The other gym members are really friendly too, so it feels like a community. The gym itself is very clean & well maintained, despite having two cats roaming around, which is a miraculous feat imo as a cat owner myself. (The cats are like 50% of the reason I joined-- come for the workout, stay for the cats.)
I've already lost a little bit of weight (despite not changing my diet very much which is the biggest factor anyway) & more importantly, I feel better and am not getting as winded during workouts. I can really feel myself getting healthier.
Even without all the above, the number one thing I appreciate the most about this gym is I feel like I can just be myself without judgement. As someone who sometimes struggles with social anxiety but also needs a fitness class to go to so I can be held accountable, this is huge. I don't ever feel out of place or put down or less than any other gym member; everyone is on equal footing, regardless of fitness level. I also don't feel like just another anonymous face coming in and out of the gym without ever speaking to anyone. Like I said earlier, it feels like a community. One that I hope to be a part of for a long time. So please come, say hi to Holly and Boogie (the cats), and Just Train. You...
Read moreI've been going to this gym for seven years, and I'm definitely not the only one. There's actually a lot of variety in who walks through the doors between folks coming in for 5+ years and people just starting out. Everything is at your own pace and modified if you have any injuries or need to work on progression.
Most box gyms have only an annual membership with extra (pricey) fees if you cancel early, but Chris offers annual, monthly, and class packs to make it flexible for everyone at different price points. Super flexible, and everybody (instructors of course, and other folks in class) just want to see you reach your fitness goals. Like anything worth doing, if working out was easy and you lost 30lbs in a month, everybody would have a six pack! That's just not realistic, but the team here works with you, cares about how it's going. Nutrition plans too! Everyone here is supper welcoming, there aren't any pushy muscle-heads like there are at box gyms, just genuine people who actually care.
If you read a lot of the other reviews you'll know Chris is a fantastic owner, anything with cancellation policies are actually mandated by the State of Rhode Island and/or the billing company and he's actually really open about explaining it if you have questions, and there's postings at the front desk and it's on the waiver.
We do fundraisers for local animal shelters every so often, 5Ks every fall and spring, "Gymsgiving", potlucks, etc.
Oh and there's also...
Read moreI was a member at the gym from February to July. I needed to cancel my gym membership due to health issues, with hopes of returning in the fall. The first week of July the gym was closed. The following week I wrote to the owner saying I need to cancel. He told me he wouldn’t be able to cancel July or August because he needed a 30 day notice or a doctor’s note. I gave him my doctor’s note and received no response. I attempted to contact him several times and never received a response back, even though I could see that he had read all my messages. I was never rude and apologized for having to cancel. I was still charged for August. I again emailed him letting him know that I was charged for the month of August and was hoping to be refunded. No response. I find this very unprofessional. At least respond back saying you for some reason, could not issue me a refund. I got NOTHING. Even other members were appalled, disappointed and shocked that he would react this way. I never leave negative reviews but this left a sour taste in my mouth. The membership is $135/month! That was $135 that I did not account for for that month and it left me in a bind. I thought we had a good relationship at the gym but I guess money trumps loyalty and professionalism. Very...
