Do not by any means hire this company! Carefully read all of the well written complaints and do your homework as you will see there are serious problems with the way Susan and Deja Vu does business.
I contacted this company a month ago to do my sale. Susan came out and looked at everything that I had and then sent me over a contract. They do a 60/40 split and what doesn't sell goes to their shop in PB Gardens to sell on consignment. Additionally, there is a "cleaning and removal" fee of $300 which is not disclosed until the meeting. If you chose not to pay the fee then you are responsible for cleanup and removal yourself of any items left over.
I signed on with their services and then had to text Susan several times in order to get a date for sale. Finally she gave me a date of a Sunday. I had a three bedroom house full of stuff and it was a supposed to be a five hour sale which was not nearly enough time to clean out the contents and have the proper foot traffic in my home for sale. I was very concerned with this. Susan assured me that Sundays were good days for them. My gut was telling me they had other sales booked that weekend and I was a last priority, but I still gave them a chance.
My deadline to move out was this Monday, and I expressed that to Susan upon hiring her. She came to set up on Wednesday and said her staff worked most of the day and then at 5:00 PM turned around and told me she wasn't going to do the sale via text. That I simply did not have enough stuff to make it worth her time. Ummmm.. could you not tell me this during the 2 times that you went to my house? This left me out of time and options.
If this wasn't bad enough when I showed up to my home I was greeted with black trashbags full of the contents of my house thrown onto the sidewalk when I entered my home it look like a bomb had gone off in every single room there were items stolen from me and flat out missing. They also brought a pet of some sort (dog) ? into the house which they were feeding from my dishes. When I walked into my sons room I noticed a large stain on the area rug. Obviously the pet that they had brought in had urinated all over the carpeting. I honestly have never experienced a company that is trying to sell items in your home bringing an untrained pet into the home and then proceeding to feed it with someone's dishes and let it urinate all over the home.
I sent Susan a very long and upset text regarding the circumstances to which she came back and said that my home was filthy. This was absolutely completely not true the house was thoroughly cleaned before I would ever let anyone in I have photographs and witnesses to state and the condition. I was absolutely appaled at her lack of professionalism, caring, and lack of remorse. Additionally, I told her that I was going to write a scathing review of her company online. To which she responded that she would be posting a rebuttal claiming that my home was filthy and that she had photos to prove it and will lie. Well guess what Susan, so do I. Thank God I had the good sense to go from room to room and photograph everything before these con artists came into my home. At the very least I have evidence of what was there before they came. And the condition of the home.
Susan's only consolation after I threatened to post a negative report, was that she would bag up my stuff and put it out on the curb or to call Goodwill to get the stuff. No mention of anything that was stolen or missing. Of course she added that she would do this at " no charge to me". I am in route to my house now to file a police report for the missing items.
I am absolutely disheartened and sick about this violation to myself and the contents of my home and my possessions. Be very very very careful when you hire an estate sale liquidator and do your homework. I'm hoping that this review will save others time money and heartache. I wish I would have researched this company more and thoroughly read the reviews before hiring her on as I would have never done business with her....
Ā Ā Ā Read morešÆUPDATED REVIEW 3/25šÆ Shortly after leaving the review below a 1 star Sharon, the owner called me and profusely apologized and took responsibility for what apparently was a misunderstanding. I did end up getting my items in the mail and was not charged for shipping and that was certainly very, very nice of her. I was not completely sold on upgrading my 1st review at that time or if I would do business with this company, but I chose to, and when I did, they stepped into action and have taken care of business very very well. I was going through a tough time the last couple weeks I may have been a little harsh and maybe a little jumping ahead of myself, but I will say this Sharon and her team have taken great care of me and have shown an amazing amount of empathy. I look forward to continued business with DejaVu, so please do lots of business with them they always have great quality items and guys thanks for turning this experience around and making me a lifelong customer. I look forward to visiting the other coast of Florida and stopping in to say hello and meeting you guys. Thank you šš»
I hate leaving a small business a bad review because I know how much it means. but unfortunately I have no choice when it directly has to do with the businesses policies and lack of transparency with those policies. My first time dealing with an auction house that doesnāt have atleast a finger in the shipping process. Iāll first say any auction house that doesnāt provide shipping of some sort is just bad business, as a business owner thatās leaving too much of your reputation in the hands of a 3rd party and youāre leaving easy money on the table. Anyways on with todayās episode I won 2 very small lots (wallet and earrings) on 1/27/25 paid for them on 1/27/25 $186 then crickets nothing in the meantime I had some very very important family matters to handle I reached out 2/17 got a response call us it will be $25 to ship we can do it in house just call us with your card, no better hurry no penalties mentioned ok cool I finally managed to call 2/26 I get Iāll call you back when I find it??? She Called today 2/27 (30 days since auction) my 5x4 wallet with earrings are gone considered abandoned she says?? What are you kidding me you never mentioned that once as being a possibility. I should have read these reviews before I even did business with them, please donāt make the same mistake they had and have no empathy or integrity whatsoever thatās what all these poor reviews come down to a poorly managed organization without the proper moral guidelines in place. If they run a business like this imagine what kind of people they are in life. Now Iāll call my CC company cancel the payment tell the CC company that they abandoned me and my orderššIāll use your words to get back my money. Believe me this has nothing to do with how I feel so no need to respond Iām merely stating facts. Your business practices are terrible as my earrings and wallet are probably in your purse another victim claimed. Remember itās only been a month and the item is 5x4 inches so no storage issues just somebody there decided it looks better on them so they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThings started well then went downhill with unsatisfactory performance, communication, inventory records, and finally apparent disappearance of an expensive mink coat. The owner came to our elderly mom's house and she signed a contract for 60/40 split. Our mom sold her house and was moving to another city. Virtually the entire house contents were going to the estate sale. This left the estate sale prep, actual sale, and after-sale actions in hands of the liquidator with no one in town to monitor. The owner said they managed these type sales often when people moved and were good at it. We felt confident from the sales pitch, owners apparent knowledge, and assurances. Wrong! We should have asked more questions and been more vigilant.
Inventories provided to us were written out in long hand and items under $50 were not listed. The liquidator indicated all items would be barcoded so we assumed they would be computer inventoried and tracked. We expected monthly computer generated reports of items sold and unsold. We never received such reports. This made accurate record keeping difficult.
The estate sale was held on a Thursday for five hours from 10:00AM to 3:00PM even though we requested a weekend. This isn't ideal and sales from that day reflect this. The liquidator then moved everything to a warehouse to sell. They were supposed to broom clean the house but left broken glass all over the floors.
As months passed the liquidator didn't communicate effectively with updates pertaining to sold and unsold items until prodded via email and phone calls. At times the owner failed to answer calls or voice messages. Members of the staff or the owner who could answer questions always seemed to be away.
Months later the owner was questioned about a full length mink coat from the initial inventory, which was neither sold nor later accounted for. Owner agreed to return it after a lawyer contacted her. The coat returned was not the original mink coat but a cheap fake fur coat at fraction of the cost. With the possibility of further lawyer involvement the owner paid for the original coat.
The liquidator indicated items not sold will be given to charity. We never received a list of items donated to charity for tax purposes.
Now, much later we are still not sure of the final status of our mother's estate sale. We would not hire this liquidator in the future or recommend them. We learned some lessons. Ask more questions, do a complete self-inventory, photograph every single item to be sold, and don't...
