Morgan Family Community Center — Local services in North Port

I didn't know what to expect, but everybody was wonderful and everything went great. Everything was set up for us, and the staff was right there to help clean up. Security was in and out all night and available. Mostly, as a mom, I saw all the wonderful things that were offered for teens and young adults. I was there for a different event, but it made my heart warm to see our youth in a safe, secure environment just hanging out after school. I grew up in North Port before there was even a Middle School or a High School in the 1990s and it completely blows my mind how much the community that I grew up in has grown and all of the opportunities for our youth that wasn't there when I was Young. I could hear the JV football team from the announcer across the way. Watch little and big kids share a basketball court, and everyone even got to touch the ball! It was night and day from being bussed to Venice in my time. I can now say that growing up in "The No Po Stix" is not the same as my experience. There was absolutely nothing to do in North Port as a teen in the 90s except the Port Charlotte mall, Englewood Pelican Petes (rip,) and Venice Beach. This comment is strictly about the fitness center. I have been a member for 6 or 7 years and go regularly 3 to 4 times a week. During the height of Covid, I stopped. Just recently I returned to work out there only to find the weight machines in deplorable condition. How can there be so much rust on them when this indoors? I don't know but I was shocked. I heard during last week's budget workshop, the Parks and Rec dept has budgeted $$$ for new equipment. I hope it is for this fitness center. Another suggestion... end the free memberships for DFY kids. I have witnessed them fooling around on the equipment, trying to force the belt on a treadmill to go in the wrong direction and also jamming weights into the top position on a machine then walking away. They are not there to work out just goofing off and annoying the other people trying to exercise. End it now before they ruin the...

Horrible staff, 6 years of going there the resent 2 yrs staff change horribly I recommend taking out the ones who don’t actually care about the community undergo all your policy’s and understand some of these can not apply to real community for the ppl, the past 3 weeks of going there staff has treated and looked at me different I truly despise of the workers. A very small dispute of human talking to human trying to understand what has changed they are very quick to trespass you or call the cops on anything. They truly think they can treat us like nobody’s instead of having a connection with the cloture and human kind.
