Pine Tree Market — Local services in Oakhurst

Pine Tree Market, and the rangers that directed me there, saved my life during a snowstorm. I had been stranded for hours one morning after the roads iced over. I couldn’t go back to Fish Camp, and I couldn’t drive over the icy passes in the park.

Without cell signal, and without tire chains, I had been stranded nearby with no way to call roadside and no way to move very far. Not only did Pine Tree Market have the tire chains I needed, they had high quality ones. Mike even came out into the snow to patiently teach me how to put them on (I’m from Florida), instruct me on how to drive with the chains equipped, and send me safely on my way into Yosemite with a hot cup of coffee.

Later that evening, after a fierce day of snow, I was able to return to Fish Camp unharmed in spite of absolutely treacherous conditions and a very snow-unfriendly vehicle.

As I approached Tenaya Lodge in the dark, traffic slowed to a scene where six or seven cars, each without chains, had slid sideways down a pitched curve and into a ditch due to a 1/4” thick sheet of ice. The tow truck that came to retrieve them met the same fate.

Because of Mike, I did not.

Well-stocked little grocery store in the Redwoods at Yosemite vacation rental area, with everything you could want to cook in your vacation rental house. We picked up stuff for salad, fruit, and even New York steaks! The Wawona gas & grocery on the main road is good for souvenirs, but the Pine Tree is a better grocery store. We stocked up at the Von's in Oakhurst before arriving in Yosemite, but with 3 nights in the park and six hungry adults to feed, we inevitably ran out of food - thank goodness for...

Pine Tree Market has had a glow-up in recent years and turned into a community hub for Wawona. The charming outside area (to the left) is host to twice weekly “Coffee with a Ranger” and other community events like craft night (currently on Wednesdays).
