This turned out to be the best souvenir shop I encountered at Yosemite and far outranks the one inside the park! I was really kind of disappointed by the price and selection of the products that were inside the Village Store at Yosemite. The ambience inside there isn’t particularly enjoyable either. Feels like you walked into a busy Target-but instead of low prices, you just know everything is going to be at super high prices. Likewise, their selection wasn’t especially eye-catching or stylish and some bins (Yosemite coins and some magnets) looked sold out already. Other than some tiny handmade dishes I saw, I didn’t really find anything particularly enticing to buy there. However, walking into Yosemite Falls Trading Post was so much more fun!….We parked there just to try some Reimer’s ice creams for the first time, but our interest got peaked the second we saw the cute store front with the Yosemite Falls Trading Post sign on it. We couldn’t resist!;) As we walked in, an automated voice cheerily greeted us with a “Howdy Partner!” - which made us both laugh as we started looking around. The store is stylishly set up and well-organized, but also has an warm, inviting feel to it, as well. It’s the kind of place that makes you linger, because there are interesting things in every corner! We just enjoyed wandering around looking at all the interesting souvenirs on display. There were plenty of native items there and an assortment of eye-catching trinkets and souvenir items at very reasonable prices. We gravitated towards a center display full of pretty necklaces and also a side stash we found of unusual stones for our niece’s gifts. Additionally, I hadn’t found a hat that seemed cute enough at the Village Store, but immediately landed on a pink Yosemite hat here that I ended up buying. Additionally, the owner of the store was extremely friendly and attentive-no matter how busy he was helping different customers. His social ease and conversational curiosity made the store feel very friendly, lively and personable. I got the feeling that he and his brother (who we didn’t meet - but who he said co-owns the store with him) must be very hardworking, efficient, and talented in the work they do, because the store has a well-stocked, polished, and beautiful feel to it. And not only that, but it makes it all the more fun to shop at places when you can create a real heartfelt connection with the store owner. And that can only happen if the owner shows a real heart for his or her customers. My hubby started chatting with the owner very soon after we walked in, and let him know - just offhand - that it was our anniversary. Quite unexpectedly, as we were checking out, he surprised us with a little golden pot of Sage Honey as a free gift and also discounted one of the stones we wanted to buy for our niece. It was his kindhearted way of sending us off with warm thoughts and good memories of his store and Yosemite, which we really so appreciated. :) We even took a photo with him at his storefront, because he really made our day! In any case, I hope I’ll get to come back to Yosemite and visit this store again in the future. It’s a little hidden gem, so if you’re anywhere near Oakhurst, I would encourage you to try and stop by Yosemite Falls Trading Post first before going into the store at the park. You can always go to the park store afterwards if you want to, but the prices there are higher and the selection isn’t as fun. Anyway, I wish I had known earlier! Hope this review helps someone who likes shopping for souvenirs as much as I do. :) Five stars...
Read moreWe visited Yosemite in early July, and stayed in Oakhurst. We wandered into The Trading Post while looking for t-shirts. We instantly realized we had discovered a wonderful place. We visited a few other shops, but the selection at the Trading Post was incredible. The Brothers have everything you could possibly want in a gift shop. Their selection is extensive; the quality is superior. Jamal and Ahmad were helpful without being intrusive. They offered suggestions and answered questions. They are extremely proud of their store. Their quality of the inventory is outstanding. They have filled the shelves with locally and nationally made items. They handpick their vendors and proudly share details. I have never been in a shop where the merchandise has been so deliberately and carefully chosen and displayed. Jamal and Ahmad stand behind every item. Between our family, we made three separate trips to The Trading Post. We bought more than we had intended or needed. We were totally inspired. If you're passing through Oakhurst on your way to the park, don't miss a visit to this...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped by Yosemite Falls Trading Post on our way out of Yosemite to grab some souvenirs for ourselves and our family—and we’re so glad we did! Based on photos and its location near our hotel (and right next to an ice cream shop), it seemed like the perfect stop, and it absolutely was.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Jamal, who was incredibly friendly and eager to help. I was looking for a specific sweater I had seen online, but Jamal suggested an even better one—and I ended up falling in love with it! He had such great recommendations, not just for items in the store, but also for things to do in the area. We ended up chatting for quite a while, and he even suggested we check out Bass Lake—which we did—and it was stunning!
To top it all off, Jamal treated us to ice cream next door (delicious!) and even let us sample some tasty honey. His hospitality, warmth, and helpfulness truly made our experience memorable. The customer service alone makes this place worth a visit, and we’ll definitely be coming back next time we’re...
