I have previously visited Digital Dot for cell phone repairs without any issues. However, my most recent experience left me frustrated and feeling taken advantage of. I brought in my MacBook Air for service after the keyboard suddenly stopped working. The staff informed me that the only solution was to replace the entire top case and keyboard at a cost of $460. Given that this was nearly half of what I originally paid for the laptop four years ago, I declined the service. After conducting my own research, I discovered that the issue was with the keyboard control circuit board. I was able to purchase an OEM replacement for $30 and successfully installed it myself in approximately 15 minutes. The keyboard now functions perfectly. Had the employees performed a more thorough diagnosis, they could have identified this simpler and more cost-effective solution. I am also skeptical that any diagnostics were performed or that my device was even opened, despite being charged over $60 for the service. Upon inspecting the laptop, I found that all the seals on the ribbon cables remained intact, suggesting that the device was never disassembled. I gave them my information and was told the typical turnaround was 3 days and a full diagnostic was done in 24-48 hours at which point I would get a call giving me an updated status. After 3 days of no contact I called THEM and it was clear that they hadn't even touched my computer yet. I was told they'd call back in 10 minutes when they had completed their diagnostic. 45 minutes later I get a call that says it was the keyboard (which they should have already known because I told them) and they would overnight the part and have it done by the "middle of next week." After Tuesday, Wednesday, and most of Thursday pass I have to call them again and am told they still don't have the part at which point I told them I needed it back and their communication had been terrible. I got a call back later in the day that said the part should arrive the next morning and it would be available in the afternoon. The next morning I get another call saying they didn't know where the part was and I went in and took back my computer still broken. At least they charged me $0.
TL;DR - Was told a 3-day turnaround time, but these guys babysat my computer for 10 days with downright terrible communication and never did get my one...
Read moreI wish I could give ten stars. If you are thinking of using Digital Dot - DO IT! My brand new iPhone was run over on 144th street for THREE HOURS before I found it. It was completely shredded. Shattered screen, display had completely fallen off, inside was exposed. Despite the extensive damage (like, really extensive), Digital Dot FIXED. MY. PHONE. Every photo I have taken of my daughter since the day she was born lived on that phone, and I was too cheap to pay the $2/month to back it up to iCloud, so I was devastated. It meant the absolute world to me that these folks would even ATTEMPT to fix the mess of a phone I brought them. They were SO kind and professional. I am still in absolute disbelief that they fixed this phone. They are tech magicians. Because they are the only Apple Certified repair shop in Omaha (and in my opinion exponentially better than the cold-hearted hipsters at the Apple store), they have a lot of customers, so I had to wait my turn for a couple days, but it was WORTH IT to have these wizards recover all my stuff.
