Watch your credit card. I like this place a lot, have joined every year for a month when I vacation at my family lake house in the area. Did the same thing last summer, but they kept charging my credit card @$50/month by month after I left. My bad for not noticing it for seven months until I did my taxes. Asked for a refund for the 7 months I was charged but didn't use. Was first told yes by a manager, then he'd "see what he can do," then he could only refund two months, which means I'm out @$250. When I asked why, he said it was "policy." When I asked to speak to the owner, small businessman to small businessman, was told this wasn't possible because he's out of state. As if that's a barrier. Was also told that they don't do monthly memberships. Not true, as I've joined monthly since the place opened. If "policy" was changed this customer wasn't told. I grew up around there, so sad to the know there's this scammer in Ottertail. There are similar options now, in Battle Lake and Fergus. That's where I'll go now and tell all my friends and all my family to do the same. Don't reward dishonesty.
Postscript August 2025: Much of the response from management below is misleading and the apology for confusion rings pretty hollow when they kept my money. Management did tell me at first that they would try to refund me, but then backtracked -- twice. And if management was actually "empowered" they would be able to make exceptions to policy when there is a reason for doing so -- a reason like valuing a long time loyal customer or being fair. Anyway, I've moved on to Total Body Fitness in Battle Lake. Better range of equipment, especially for legs, and its newer. Owner is local and he's the manager. As a manager, he's responsive and fair -- like Kristi was when she managed the Garage. Policy on refunds is clearer and more...
Read moreGreat gym, awesome equipment, and an inviting yet competitive atmosphere. Any and all kinds of fitness goals, whether CrossFit, bodybuilding, athletics, or just general health, are attainable here.
There are machines (cardio and weights), free weights (dumbbells, kettlebells, plates, barbells), exercise bands, two squat racks, a bench press, and open benches. There is also an open back room for yoga, stretching, boxing, cardio, or anything else your heart desires.
The stereo system is available for anyone to connect to, so you can blast some pump up music or listen to the radio. There are also TVs in front of the cardio equipment to help endure your grueling conditioning sessions.
This gym is always clean and the 24-hour access is a life saver. It’s truly a gem in such a rural area. I recommend this gym for anyone...
Read moreGreat gym overall. It'd be nice if it was a little bigger, but that's nitpicking. My only genuine issue is with their subscription model. If you need to cancel, contact them ASAP before you forget. There are no refunds under any circumstances, and automatic renewal will sneak up on you and can be very pricy. On top of that, it's a little inconvenient and slow because you can't cancel on their own website even though it tracks your subscription - you have to contact the team and they aren't available on weekends, only during business hours. College students leaving for the semester - take note. We're all already broke, don't let...
