It is one of the asian market on Kansas City suburb area, but unfortunately the experience visiting is not the greatest. Throughout the years despite has another competitors nearby such as Pan Asia has not really changed. Customer service department is very much lacking. Price is very much often overpriced. Item sold is not uncommon out of expiration date, and as they have robust amount of frozen section it is hard to see whether these are very old one or not. The other day when I was looking to find some expensive item on the frozen section, all the package has been open from the boxes and ripped off. It is not clear whether the item might has been adulterated or switched off but need to be better controlled. Item at the seafood area, you need to pay before getting fish gutted and cleaned. If this is one way one want to run the service they really need to have a cashier nearby not customer running to the line at the cashier at the very end, pay then waited to pick up the fish at the fish counter and then shopped and then waited in line to pay again. It is so ridiculous. Yes they are probably bad customer who returned your fish as it is overpriced but it is not to punish all customers. It is a bad move. You also need to pay $2 for a bag of dirty ice cube which is crazy. Very much profit oriented and they really need to work on customer service. Also those who are looking for cash discount, it is pretty much a joke. Majority of items are excluded without clear rhymes and pattern. Those membership discount is useless. Credit card points would counts financially better. It is a shame to their counterpart who gives real discount for any items including when you pay with credit cards. Loyalty is not in the dictionary of the owners...
Read more888 International Market is hands down one of my favorite Oriental grocery stores to visit. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with an expansive space filled with a vast selection of items, from fresh produce to pantry staples, and everything in between. It's the kind of store that makes grocery shopping an adventure, and I always leave with something new to try.
One of the highlights of the market is the hot food section, which is hard to resist. The aromas alone are enough to make your mouth water, and the flavors never disappoint. Additionally, their bakery section is a must-visit with its fresh and delicious offerings, including sweet bread and pastries.
What I also love about 888 International Market is that they have a section dedicated to home decor. It's a fun addition to the shopping experience, and I always find myself drawn to the giant fans, statues, and room dividers. It's a unique touch that sets this market apart from others.
Moreover, they have a fresh seafood section and a pretty decent size meat department that cater to the needs of their customers. If you cannot find what you need at the smaller oriental markets, this is the place to be.
The service at 888 International Market is great, with friendly staff always willing to assist you with any questions or concerns. And with their rewards program, you can earn points for every purchase you make, which can be redeemed for discounts on future purchases.
Overall, 888 International Market is a fantastic grocery store that I highly recommend visiting. With its huge selection of items, hot food, bakery section, home decor pieces, fresh seafood, and meat department, it's a one-stop-shop for all your Oriental...
Read moreBest Chinese in the area. Seriously. Get here, and get down.
So my rather terse previous review (see above) doesn't really do this place justice. It's an asian focused market sure. But it is so, so much more. There is a cafe inside that has a menu just as extensive as your favorite Chinese restaurant, but my bet is that whatever they make here will be better than what you're used to.
I started coming here for lunch during culinary school at JCCC. They always fed me well, but more than that it fed my curiosity and sense of wonder. There is so much to discover about other cultures that we're so seldom exposed to her in the west. And this location is a bastion of the wild and varied rainbow that is Asian cuisine.
But wait! There's more. In addition to being an enormous market with exotic produce and proteins, they also carry many of the tools needed to cook specific dishes, it almost seems like they stock their store to serve all the Chinese restaurants in the metro. Which makes this place the likely source for most of the Chinese food you love no matter where in KC it's from.
They also have a bunch of authentic furniture and jewelry for sale past the registers. Which I unfortunately have never taken the time to seriously peruse. If you're curious at all, go and have a look and don't let the fish smell put you off, it's pretty dang...
