Good morning my name is Keith once known and respected in most billiard circles as a player and enthusiast not to mention a pretty fair table mechanic for thirty years; I was known as the Legend and some called me the general. In Dec of 2014 after 6 years of not playing the big boxes I decided to try my hand once more at the great game of pool after two weeks of playing at about 35 dollars a day I discovered that the tables were deplorable. They are not level the balls veering off at the pockets and only have about two thirds of the speed, the front facing cushions are terrible causing the ball to careen off the corners the rails and all of the tables are not very responsive and very inconsistent yes they have been recovered and look decent but looks can be deceiving can and this case they most certainly are. I was hesitant about going to cue and cushion because it has always been controlled by a seedy element who prey upon anybody who chances in to play a game of pool these dregs of society just can’t take no for an answer you can’t even practice without constantly being badgered, gambling runs rampant and the no gambling signs are just for the police who just ignore the illegal practice so much for the blue brotherhood. The atmosphere has always been very hostile for the average player dating back to the original owner Bob who basically was parasitical in nature preying upon people that were having hard times buying their jewelry at a very reduced rate of value, and the apple has not fallen far from the tree for the son of the now deceased owner who more than likely received his just reward does the same so go ahead folks c’mon down and you will find to your dismay that it is the last place in St Louis that you want to play pool. Considering if you love the game of billiards as I do Cue and cushion is the sole survivor of the billiard parlors in St Louis, pool is gone my friends except for this cesspool of immorality that sells cheap inferior tables to an unknowing public in my opinion it gets a half a star and that rating only because they have the larger tables even in their deplorable condition. I do not recommend going there unless enjoy playing on a bad table which should be a lesson in...
Read moreCue & Cushion is a landmark in the pool community and has been for decades. When I first moved back to St. Louis after college, I started to pick up pool as a new hobby and everyone that I met said the place to go for all of your equipment needs and incredible environment to learn the game, Cue & Cushion is your one stop shop. I soon started looking for a new Cue and they were the first stop. Got a great deal, that was 18 years ago. Have bought and traded several cues there and always a good deal. C & C has that nostalgic feel to it, yet still has all the modern things you are looking for, from the internet jukebox to the first 9' Diamond Smart table in the St. Louis area. They are also the only ones that offer 7', 9', heated 3-cushion, and snooker. Great rates and perfect place to play for anyone from the beginning player to even Mosconi Cup champions. That says a lot about the place when Mark Wilson, the current Captain of the Mosconi Cup team and the player that sank the winning 9-ball in the first Mosconi Cup to beat Team Europe has for years used C & C as his place of choice to give private lessons to the players in the St. Louis area. Highly recommend this legendary family owned pool hall for your next game of pool whether just for fun or for serious...
Read moreIt has been 9 years since we got my wife’s dad’s A.E. Schmidt pool table as a house-warming gift. The basement has been mostly finished and we were able to finally play. Cue and Cushion is about 30 min away from us but sooo worth the drive. Chris was at the counter when we entered. Immediately greeted and we started asking questions. Looking for many misc items like new cues, ball set, brush, cue holder, etc. Never once did I feel he was trying to rush us with our decisions. He answered our questions and let us decide unless we specifically asked for his expertise on a subject. My wife is 5’2” so I thought a 48” cue would work for her. There was an older lady near the shorter cues, Shirley. We asked for a 48” cue and she asked us to try it out before purchasing. After a min of her insisting, we finally agreed and she could not have been more correct! If it wasn’t for her insisting, we would have gotten the wrong size cue for my wife and she wouldn’t have been happy. My wife preferred the 52” cue instead of the 48”. Thank you Shirley for insisting we try it. A nice family owned pool hall and supply store. Good rates and prices. Because of Chris and Shirley’s treating everyone like family mentality, they have another customer for...
