Wasn’t impressed with this establishment at all. Stock was dusty and overpriced. There was a tension in the air , we ignored it and still got a few items. The reason became evident as we witnessed preferential treatment to customers, seen plain as day with a Caucasian family as the next customers- as soon as they entered after our family they got a nice clear greeting and was told about free samples, my family was told barely anything .
Our experience was a bit different . Minimum , muttered words by the cashier and the watching by some unmarked security person in a hoodie by the register. It was so quiet I had to speak first and ask “how are you doing?”. After witnessing the blatant difference, It didn’t sit right with me so I sought to return some pecans , and the owner pointed to some sign , still not speaking! I let him know that this is why I’m returning the item, the differential treatment wasn’t necessary! he let me know there’s no returns . Ok no problem. I’m getting back into our truck, This man comes from behind the counter and follows me to the truck-claiming he did speak with my family, specifically my dad - what? Damage is done , he just made things look worse.
Lesson? This shop has no issues taking our green money but it was evident there was a problem with our brown skin. Leave this roadside stand alone if you have...
Read moreArrived at approximately 5:30 (our receipt says 17:42:53) and I was greeted by a man that said "we are closing in 5 minutes and the bathrooms have already been cleaned". He must have heard me tell my husband - in Spanish - that they have a bathroom. The website says the location is open until 6 so I guess he just didn't want to serve us. Talk about a turn off as a greeting. The only reason I didn't turn around and walk out was because we were on our way somewhere and couldn't make any more stops for the taffy we needed to buy. But that will be the only time I step foot into that shop. I planned on spending more money there but he was rushing us and had a long face. As it is, I spent way too much money for the type of service I was subjected to. If this gentleman is the owner, sir, you should probably find yourself another line of business where you don't have to serve people. With so many ways to obtain products, all a business has to offer is SERVICE. If this person is an employee, I suggest the owner find another employee who does not lie about business hours and who doesn't mind serving people. As proof of the time we were here, I've attached a photo of my receipt. The only reason I gave one star is because I couldn't give ZERO stars. That's all this...
Read moreThe restroom was clean and usable. There are many items for tourists to peruse, but I do not recommend any nut purchases. Don't be fooled by their signs of .99 cent or $1 rolls, because I saw none. We did decide to purchase a few packages of nuts for the road trip to SC.
I truly don't have much good to say about the nuts. The first bag we opened after leaving was supposed to be Cajun peanuts. They were stale and nothing but peanuts with Chile seasoning on them. Ended up trashing them because they were that horrible. Second bag, hoping they would be better, opened the honey roasted pecans. These smelled old and upon tasting just one, realized they were stale, rancid and tasted horrible. There are no date's on the bags, so you can not determine how old they are. We have yet to open our third bag, but I may follow-up with another review. We also made a wine and cider purchase with the nuts for a total of $76. So not inexpensive. If the products were halfway decent, I wouldn't be complaining. But we got a long distance screwing. Hoping the wine and cider taste better than the nut choices....
