TL;DR - I am a repeat Pet Paradise customer who has never received a depressed, very underweight, underexcersized, hoarse sounding dog before. I mention policies that I didn't know until we arrived. No end of stay report, and no one could tell me how she was.
My review is extensive but necessary in the poor experience I had here. I've boarded my dog at multiple locations. Daytona, St Augustine, Gainesville, and now Palm Coast. If I had booked with enough time in advance, I would have booked with Daytona or St Augustine for her 7-day stay, as I have had good experiences with them, but they were all full.
We paid for and was told she had a pool side view, but they did not bring her from the poolside kennels. They brought her from another set of kennels that we were told hold the unsociable dogs.
Every pet paradise I've gone to offers complimentary baths after a 3 day stay. This one doesn't. It's an additional minimum $40 charge.
We picked her up depressed, underweight, and wet/stinky. Oddly enough, she was still wet and matted around her legs and the underside of her body, but not the rest. I wonder if she laid in urine or a wet floor for long periods of time. She came to pet paradise with a very full "husky" body, and now I can feel her spine and see depressions around her ribs & hips. She clearly did not eat the week she was there, and that was never mentioned, nor were we called for that.
The four times I talked with staff, over the phone and in person, no one could tell me how she was doing. Just that she had no comments under her profile. Upon pickup one person told me she had a cough (which is from biling up if she does not eat properly). Why wasn't that in the comments? There was also no end of stay report, which I have received from the other locations. She was clearly neglected.
One staff member asked another employee if my dog got her medicine in the morning yet, insinuating she should be attended to before we pick her up. My dog does not take medicine. The staff clearly does not know what is going on with the pets, and it's very worrisome. Especially if you have a special needs dog. They also do not give any supplements you may have unless it is in the original packaging - keep that in mind.
They did not take her out to play by the time we came to pick her up close to noon. She will bile up if not fed in the morning, and she did bile up in the car. She ate two bowls worth of food when we fed her at a rest stop. Her vocalizations sound hoarse, implying she's been howling for way too long due to unmet needs :-(
They didn't take her out to play on the day of pickup because "they were short on staff" and had just taken the large dogs out to play close to noon.. We are paying to have our dogs mentally and physically stimulated, not anxious and bored in a kennel all day. That's what vet offices do. We're paying a premium to avoid that. I checked their live feed twice, and there were no dogs playing on the live feed, or someone was sitting down on their phone taking a smoke break with two dogs standing next to them, looking for something to do. Their social media barely shows any dogs. The other locations have daily, multiple updates of all the dogs in their care.
I have a very friendly, high-energy husky. In the past, she has come back tired- but not depressed from my other week long pet paradise stays at other locations. Daytona has told me they take her out multiple times a day to play because she is an active dog.
I will not be coming back to this inadequate location, and I will make sure to book well ahead of time to my preferred locations. This location needs to be reviewed by management. Hire more staff or don't accept as many dogs if you can not meet their needs or the basic standards set out by the other...
Read moreOn June 14, 2023, I booked a visit for Pet Paradise's Day Camp for Friday, June 23,2023. I needed to take my dad to all day medical treatment in Jacksonville on the 23rd and wanted to make sure my dog was taken care of that day. I booked through the Pet Paradise app and uploaded my dog's vaccination records (on June 14). These records included my dog's bordetella vaccine, which was given on July 23, 2022, and which my vet said was good until July 23, 2023.
On June 22, 2023, the day before my dog's day camp appointment, Pet Paradise told me that my dog's bordetella vaccine needed to be given within six months of the day camp visit. Needless to say, this requirement is not listed on Pet Paradise's website. (And it doesn't match the requirements of the last dog kennel my dog stayed at or of the doggy bar that I take my dog to--both of which accept a bordetella vaccine as long as it was given within a year of my most recent visit.) At that point, I was left scrambling last minute to find a dog sitter so I could make sure my dog was taken care of when I took my dad to the hospital.
Despite the fact that Pet Paradise's website doesn't include the requirement that dogs must have received their bordetella vaccine within the last six months, my gripe isn't with the policy (if it is actually their policy--I have no way of knowing if it is since it isn't posted on their website). Instead, my biggest complaint is that they waited eight days to tell me that they weren't going to accept my dog's bordetella vaccination records. If they had told me in a timely fashion, I could have made other arrangements more easily and avoided unnecessary stress.
I will not use Pet Paradise in the future and advise others not to use them either. Pet Paradise made an already trying time for me and my dad even...
Read moreI have used Pet Paradise at the Palm Coast Location several times now over the past couple years with no complaints. My pets recent visit was a bit frustrating, booked the reservation a couple months ahead of time however, upon arrival the night of her first day it was only then I was told that there was a $20 additional up charge for one on one time for my pet, at this point not having any other choice I excepted the additional charges and dropped off my pet. She was there for a total of six nights, upon picking her up it was there again that I was told there was a second additional five dollar fee for holiday time, so now we’re up an additional $25 in fees that I was NOT told about at the time of the reservation which was frustrating. To top that off when I was given back her bag of belongings, none of her treats were given to her and when we got in the car there was a strong odor of urine on her feet which tells me two things, not only did they not give her any treats for the period of six days but they must not have kept the facility clean so she was stepping in urine constantly. I consider this to be enough of a reason to find a different facility to take my pet to on my next trip. Evidently my poor dog sat in a urine covered kennel and wasn’t given her treats as instructed and now I’m actually questioning whether or not she actually got the “one on one”time due to the fact there was hardly any personnel present either time I was on site. Beware of this business. My pet does not deserve this kind...
