I had a very disappointing experience with my 3:30 PM appointment with Yoki. I arrived early, yet she was running late and only attended to me after 3:30. From the start, she seemed rushed and rough when removing the varnish, and she wasn’t as careful when shaping my nails. She even skipped important steps, such as removing the cuticle.

When I showed her the nail design I wanted, she suggested using stickers instead, claiming it would be faster. I found this unacceptable, as I had arrived on time and it wasn’t my fault that she was overbooked or running late.

Her inattentiveness continued—she forgot that I had specifically requested hard gel and applied a regular gel base instead. I had to remind her after she had already applied a layer, which resulted in my nails feeling unnecessarily thick and uneven.

As she applied the polish, I noticed streaks and commented on it. Her response shocked me: she asked, verbatim, “Do you wanna change person?” I was stunned and just stared at her, after which she followed up with, “Because I don’t know how to do that.” At that point, I snapped and told her, “We don’t have to continue this if you don’t know how to do nails.”

There was silence, and no apology. She asked me what I wanted to do next, and I told her it was up to her. She continued working, but the experience was deeply unpleasant. What’s worse, she proceeded to talk about me in Mandarin, assuming I wouldn’t understand.

I went for a much-needed fill manicure and I have such awful decision fatigue I asked her to pick the shape after I picked the colors. She said no so I picked round. Then 5min later she said square would better so I said fine. Then they started doing my mani pedi (the pedicure was perfect) at the same time and to be honest I wasn't paying much attention because I've been there a number of times and had great manicures. When she was finished the gel was lumpy and uneven and the shape wasn't even consistent. Let me tell you something about Lumi!! They’re the BEST. No matter what technician you go to, they are always gentle on your nails, kind, and creative! This last time I went to Amanda and I didn’t even have to tell her to be gentle with the grinder on my nails. I’m normally so sensitive and am always afraid to try new nail techs for fear they’re going to grind my nail to nothing. But because of Lumi my nails are the longest they’ve ever been!
