Let me start out by saying, I like the store, I like the ice cream shop. But, on 08-12-18 which is a Sunday, I patronized Burnett Farms in Pelham and my experience was good except for the fact that the daughter of the owner came out to the ice cream shop and advised me that pets were not allowed in the icecream shop. My service dog "Jeb" was laying in front of me at the ice cream counter when I was ordering. I don't have a problem with her statement, it's just the way she said said it. I'm glad they are checking to make sure there are not people bringing pets into a food establishment. The issue I have is her not asking the appropriate questions that are allowed by law. 1. Is that a service dog required because of a disability? And 2. What task or tasks does it perform. She just assumed it was a pet. Jeb did not have his vest on but by law I am not required to have a vest on him. And also, he has a collar that is clearly marked SERVICE DOG in big bold lettering. So, the following week, 08-19-18 I went into the ice cream store with my wife and my service dog. This time vested, to get some ice cream and when I approached the ice cream counter to make my selection, I layed Jeb in front of the counter. After making my selection we sat down in one of the high sitting tables by the windows. After sitting there a few minutes I noticed that the owners daughter (same girl from the prior sunday) was standing behind the cash register. I then noticed her staring at me and Jeb (my service dog). (And also the owner). A few minutes later one of the employees that waited on us was mopping the floor where Jeb was laying. I was thinking that maybe she was mopping in that particular place because that's where Jeb was laying. Then I thought well, maybe not. Someone probably spilled something there. After finishing our ice cream we went into the fruit stand/vegetable stand area of the establishment. My wife went into the clothing side and I sat with Jeb (Jeb being on the floor), in the wooden rocking chair in the fruit/vegetable are of the establishment, and waited on my wife. After a few minutes, my wife, Jeb and myself exited the store. I then put Jeb in the truck and as I was getting in I noticed a yellow "wet floor" sign sitting in the floor in front of the table where we were sitting. The sign was sitting directly on top of where my "filthy" service dog was laying. I then walked in to the store and up to the counter and spoke to the owner. I told her that my service dog is not so dirty as to them to feel like they have to mop the floor right when we leave. She said "people have allergies to dogs and thats why we mop. I stated to her that people come in the ice cream store all day that are pet owners that have pet dander on their clothes and do they clean up after them when they leave? She then stated, "it's nothing personal". I then advised her "well, you just made it that way!" My complaint is not that she cleans up after a person with a service dog comes in the ice cream shop, my complaint is why do they do it while the customer is still there. They could at least wait until we left. It was very embarrassing to me. It's funny that they clean the floor after a well behaved, well groomed service dog, but won't clean up after 2 snot nosed kids that were behind us in line that jumped up in the counter a stuck their faces to the ice cream display case. Not only is my service dog cleaner than these kids but, he is way better behaved.
Bottom line: I felt embarrassed, degraded and harrased. I for one will never spend another dime in this establishment. And I will tell everyone I come in contact with my experience of Burnett Farms...
Read moreMy mother, grandmother, myself, and my 3 children visited this place today. I have a 6 year old, 4 year old, and 7 month old who was in a stroller. My older 2 kids were excited and running around having fun. They were not tearing anything up or being destructive in any way. Just kids being kids and excited to be exploring a new place. A woman came up to me and made the comment that she almost ran into them. I was slightly confused by the comment just in that I wasn’t sure why she was telling me this information. A few minutes later I realized that she worked there after I saw her come from a room in the back of the store. She intentionally found my kids who were standing by the register with me, my mother, and grandmother and told them that they needed to stay with who they came with and again mentioned she had almost ran into them twice. While I understand the purpose of this, I don’t agree with how she handled the situation at all. She never introduced herself to me nor told me that she worked there, she was not understanding in any sort of motherly way, and she had no desire to make us feel even remotely welcome in this store. From reading some previous reviews, they have also made other people feel unwelcome in the past. They lost a customer for good today but from the way it seemed, she wouldn’t lose a bit of...
Read moreI visited Burnette Farms Market & Cafe Saturday, August 3rd and purchased $100 worth of fruits, veggies and snacks. Cucumbers were one of the items I purchased. When purchasing them they were very cold (like they had been frozen) and wet. By Monday morning, they had burst and leaked all over my countertop. I went to Burnette’s today to make them aware of the problem and was told that they could not be accountable for the cucumbers nor issue me a refund. The older lady I spoke with was very nasty about the situation and stated that I may have left them in the hot car. First of all, I went straight home with them and if I did leave them in the car, I have a garage I park my car in. Second, I placed them on the kitchen countertop when I got home. They were hard and cold when I purchased them. It’s like no one at this store wanted to listen to me or acted as if they were not concerned. If I were a white customer, I probably wouldn’t have been treated this way. This was a very bad experience as this was my first time shopping there. I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THEIR DOORS AGAIN. I will continue shopping at the Farmer’s Market on Finley Avenue where my business is...
