I was waiting for a reply from natural retreats/brothers cove from a feedback email I had received before I wrote this review but I'm still waiting. We had booked x2 different cabins over a 9 day period over Christmas upto to New Year.||We had cabin WHISPERING PINES from the 23rd Dec to the 27th.||||Upon our arrival the cabin was freezing, the temperatures were -13/-15C, we had running water, no wood for the log burning fire and no electric fires. I started to mess around with the thermostat and the owner could see what I was doing and could see that the heating wasn't working as the thermostat and heating was controlled via WiFi. We had a maintenance guy visit in the evening on our arrival who stated that there was nothing they could do. We arrived after 6pm when the office closed at 5pm. I don't know why the heating and cabin wasn't checked prior to our arrival.||||We had to sleep with layers of clothing on to keep warm and we struggled to sleep through the night. It wasn't an enjoyable start of our holidays and wasn't a good way for my 13 year old daughter to say hello to the USA. At 06.30hours the power went off. Luckily we had a torch with us. The cabin was dark and freezing and we couldn't have a shower.||||We complained at the office in the morning and the power had gone off in the area. I fully understand that the area had really low temperatures but they were expected so why wasn't the cabin checked out with water, wood and lighting available for these emergencies.||||We had to leave for the day as we needed to try and enjoy activities away from the cabin.||||We arrived back prior to the office closing at 17.00hrs and the power was back on. They gave us another cabin called IN THE PINES This cabin was much better in relation to the fact that we had hot running water and heating. We had brought our own firewood and resort staff gave us a few bundles too.||This cabin wasn't what we wanted as it had a table tennis table in and we wanted a pool table. Staff stated we could go in our second booked cabin PERFECT PEACE on the 26th instead of the 27th which was good.||||We filled our hire car with our luggage on the morning of the 26th and in the evening it started to snow. The parkway was clear through Pigeon Forge but driving through Wears Valley was tough with the back roads icy and snowy. We were about 10 mins away when there was a queue of traffic in the snow. The road was that icy that non 4x4 cars were unable to drive on the road. I decided to drive back to get a hotel as it was better than sleeping in the car overnight.||||On the 27th after a day out we drove back to our new cabin PERFECT PEACE and found out that it had heating but no running water. We contacted the office and all they said that the pipes must have froze up and that the weather was warming up and they should be defrosted on the 28th. After another day out we returned and the water was still not running. I asked the neighbouring cabin if they had problems with the water and they said yes but they had hired their cabin straight from the owner on airbnb. The owner sent out a plumber, fixed the problem, gave them wood and approx 12 bottles of water to help them out if the problem continued. We had zero, nothing, zilch…..nothing from Natural retreats and no apologies on our return to the UK. It was clear that the facilities such as heating, water and having wood as a back up were not inspecting and not on their priority list after contacting them a number of times.||||At around 16:00 we saw the plumber drive away from our cabin and still had no running water. We went to the office and complained and they asked our permission if someone could enter the cabin to look at the problem. Why didn’t they ask that on day one? The staff also stated that they may have turned the water off. We went out for the evening again uneasy about if we were going to return with running water or not. Luckily they told us another cabin to enter so we could shower and use the toilets etc. An hour later I received an email saying the water was back on and running. Clearly the water had been turned off and the pipes were not frozen.||From then on we had no issues with the cabin, heating, water or the facilities.||||An apology from the staff is ok but doesn’t really compensate us from the stress and problems we did have. I understand that the weather was a little extreme for a night but they need to prepare the guests for emergencies which they didn’t do. I spent lots of money for this holiday from England and felt I didn’t get it’s worth due to the stress and cabin issues. It seemed that the staff expected us to stay in our cabins all day to see if the problems were rectified or to wait for maintenance to attend which was not practical. I definitely wouldn’t stay here again in the winter as like previous reviews you are on your own and help and support is very lacking. My wife who was ill and my 13yr daughter didn’t have the best time in the cabins after 10 months or so looking forward to our first USA together.||||Would I stay here in the summer, yes I would but I would do some serious research of our cabin rental...
Read moreWe stayed in Cabin 39 Bucks Lookout. Overall, it was a really clean cabin and it did have spectacular views on two sides with a porch that wraps all the way around. If you plan to stay there, I would ask the host to address the dirty windows; the bee issue and the lack of deadbolts on the doors as a minimum. Our stay was in April 2024 and we did have bear activity on the porch as others have mentioned. One thing I noticed is there is a picture on here of the cabin from 2008. |The vast majority of the furniture, appliances and decor is the same as it was in 2008. Nothing wrong with 15+ year old things, but if you’re looking for something new or modern you might want to consider this.||There were definitely a lot of pros and cons:||Cons:||1. The downstairs storm door was broken and would not close, so it continually would bang on the glass windows of the cabin. We had to secure it against the cabin with porch furniture during a storm so that it wouldn’t potentially break itself or the cabin window.||2. Unfortunately there was a beehive on this same side of the porch, with the main view. There was an enormous swarm of bees on the porch and we were unable to go outside and enjoy that view. That is also where the grill and hot tub are located so had we wanted to use those, we wouldn’t have been able to because of the bees.||3. We are hot tub people - we have owned one for many years and have used them at various places we’ve stayed over the years. When my husband pulled the cover up on the hot tub it had a musty smell instead of a clean, chlorine type smell you would expect. It seemed dirty and smelled bad so we didn’t use it, for that reason and the bees.||3. There were many broken things. The upstairs bedroom door doesn’t close all the way. The cabin has an old 2000s-style surround sound system but the knobs are broken off it so you can’t use it. The lever is broken off the reclining chair in the living room so you can’t use that feature. The Parakeet Internet antenna is broken (we had decent wifi service nonetheless). The lampshade downstairs living room was stained with liquid. The battery is dead in the downstairs clock. The light above the sink flickers so you can’t use it. There is a broken blind on downstairs front door. One of the blinds in downstairs bedroom wouldn’t work so you couldn’t get an unobstructed exterior view from that window.|4. There were 4 stink bugs in the cabin throughout our stay which I hate. Two in living room, one in kitchen, one in downstairs bathroom.|5. All the large picture windows were very dirty even the upstairs one, which obstructs the views. |6. On the third night about 9pm we had a family of bears on the porch outside the living room/breakfast area. We had cooked a pizza in the oven and we assume they had smelled it and came looking for the source. They hung out for a bit, and walked around the kitchen side of porch and that was the last we saw them. They didn’t try to break in however, bear safety is important and the doors do not have proper deadbolts like they should. The locks and tiny slides they use as secondary locks could be easily broken so that was a little nerve wracking. There were recent reports of a bear breaking into a cabin in Gatlinburg and attacking someone - police said although his doors were locked they were not dead-bolted. I do hope the owner installs deadbolts on all the doors - there is a door on all 4 sides of the cabin. |7. Driving up a mountain is no joke and the driveway seems like it’s at least 45 degree angle and feels like you are driving straight up a wall. If you’re not used to driving on such steep grades and narrow mountain roads this could be a little unnerving.|8. Although they say there is a gate to get into the community with a code, the gate was wide open the whole time we were there and we went in and out several times. |9. The water doesn’t get that hot and when it does, it doesn’t stay that way for that long, so be prepared to spend a bit of time in between showers if multiple people need to shower.|PROS: |1. For having next to nothing updated in over a decade the place is surprisingly clean. There’s no dirt or grime build up anywhere. The appliances are old and have old appliance problems (door sticks, racks don’t come out smoothly etc) but they all work and function properly at this point.|2. Although there is a neighbor on both sides, strategically planted trees give you plenty of privacy from them, which was cool.|3. We had good internet signal the whole time.|4. The sides of the cabin we were able to get out on had spectacular views.|5. The location is a close enough drive to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, the smoky Mountain national Park, or any other tourist spots you might want to be going to in TN.||We would personally not stay in this cabin again, but some people might be okay with...
Read moreA late June bride here! Our family and friends rented cabins at the property (about 15 total), so easier access for coming and going to our booked wedding would be easier. Brothers Cove handles weddings- they did a fantastic job!!!!! The rental company however for the cabins, a different story. My parents and I came up four days before the wedding to stay on property- we checked into "livin the dream" (#44) during late evening hours and found: a dishwasher broken, the refrigerator not working, urine stains in one of the beds, dried bread chunks in the couch, a toilet seat with holes, and AC not working in one of the bedrooms (this is not even the full list)- kitchen was not clean. A nightmare continued to unfold into the night when maintenance refused to come out until the next day... no AC or working refrigerator!!! Are you joking??? I begged and begged for help, but the lack of care with the two ladies I spoke with overshadowed any hope. With barely any cell phone service and the lack of the management trying to help us, we packed up everything and left that night; while packing we were also being circled and charged by two bears, which was terrifying at 2:00am! The next day I spoke with the manager above the manager- who refunded my parents the full amount for the cabin. The experience had me beyond worried, as I booked our honeymoon to start the night of our wedding that week at one of the cabins under this management company. I stressed my concerns and found them to be finally listened too. The company reached out the day of check-in to assure me no issues would occur and that the cabin for my now husband and I was set! It was perfect (above it all)- as I hoped! I am giving two stars.... This is why. You ruined the week leading up to our wedding by not prioritizing major emergent issues immediately, causing us to book hotel nights at increased prices (not to mention having slept in the car that night). I cried so much- I will never forget the stress, or tears shed. This would've given you one star, but I'm increasing to two stars because the cabin management company assured my cabin for my husband and I was perfect (for our honeymoon).... But, it should already be perfect- especially when three nights cost over $800. If I would be offered to come and stay again, I would consider giving a second chance. However, at this point... I would just save the stress and book a hotel/resort in town. Crying and stressing the week of my wedding was not planned, seeing my parents overwhelmed was uncalled for, and having to spend unplanned expenses on other hotel nights unseen- this company truly...
