Read moreThis place is amazing! Why go to some corporate chain general store when you can go to an authentic local store like this!? This store has true character and is the perfect definition of a classic old-school general store. What makes this store special isn't the unique products, such as the jelly hot salsa (delicious), or local trout fishing baits and tackle (can't wait to try out what was recommended),...but it's the folks running and working the store. I was talking with Sidney and he has reopened this store that his grandfather used to have, which was the original area general store! You can tell that Sidney is keeping with tradition if you look around and notice all the original shelves, signs, grocery carts from 1950, old scales, display cases etc. Not only is it a store perfect for your smokey mountain vacation supplies, but it is also a time capsule from a bygone era that you can tell the owner cares for and takes pride in keeping the character of early Gatlinburg and his grandfather's spirit. I can't wait to go back and explore the store some more and learn more about the history of the place from the friendly and welcoming folks that run this place. If you are anywhere in the area, you really need to stop in and experience this magical place! Please don't pass it by, you...
Read moreWe pulled up to this store with our trailer in tow, my husband got out to ask for directions as we were unsure of the best way to get to our destination. I stayed in the front seat trying to recuperate from a migraine, my eyes closed. My husband wasn’t gone for 2 minutes when the (owner?) pounded on my window SO LOUD, I about jumped out of my seat! It scared the heck out of me and I was so frazzled, I could hardly get my window down. Just as he demanded to know where my husband was, he (my husband) was back at the car. The man then proceeded to yell at us to leave. His behavior was so rude and uncalled for, such a BULLY! Yes, it wasn’t the greatest place to pull over but there were no other options at that moment, and we were NOT blocking traffic. I MIGHT have been able to understand why he was upset if we had been there for ANY length of time at all but we were in and out of there in less than 5 minutes. Can’t say if we’ll ever be back in the area but we surely won’t be stopping here again. So hard to believe that this might be the same guy everyone else is talking about??? I don’t know? One thing for sure, I’m glad to know that my husband would never treat anyone the way this guy...
