Highland Square — Local services in Pittsburg

Another Albert seeno Junior Sierra Pacific Properties hot mess. When we moved here 30 years ago this was a vibrant shopping center with a full-service grocery & drug store. However since then it has lost its grocery store that contained a Wells Fargo Bank. The dry cleaners was forced out of business due to the pandemic and high rent. the owners of the property; Sierra Pacific remodeled it to look like other shopping centers that were built in Brentwood. with fake brick towers, that contain nothing more than a single structural support beam. The worst of which was the an overly elaborate handicap access ramp at one end of the Plaza which forced a restaurant out of business due to the difficulty seeing the front of the restaurant let alone maneuvering around the ramp to enter. I realize this was required by Americans with Disabilities. it was also used to get rid of a tenant that had been serving the community for over 30 years. The shopping center has no grocery store. The best you can do is a liquor store and questionable quality Round Table Pizza. Yes there is a DMV, but you will be waiting for hours in line outside. Since the city of Pittsburgh has decided to allow the construction of hundreds of homes along Buchanan Road, on land that is contaminated from oil and other hazardous substances that were left over when the oil storage and transfer Facility closed. The ground was deemed unfit for any use until suddenly, enough money was found in the housing market. it was said that it could not be built on for decades. It is the only Shopping Center that it is in close proximity to all of the new homes that are built and will be built in the coming year. Including those that are directly across from it. I do not see how an empty shopping center with no Grocery or Drug store is a service to the community. This is only going to increase the traffic on Buchanan Road and surrounding streets. DMV WORST ONE I'VE BEEN TO SO FAR! Training facility so there's always new hires there messing something up. I had to go back there 4 times because new hires kept making mistakes! I wish they would open up another DMV in Antioch or Brentwood or somewhere around because 2hr standing outside & another hr & half waiting to be called is ridiculously long! It's a nice selection of stores that round up nicely especially "Viva Mexico" and Starbucks the grocery store is good too not as ghetto as the Walmart center up ahead...yeesh there are drug dealers, cigarette smokers, thieves and homeless people everywhere. The people around there are weird looking too but other than that the store is good and so is the others...
