My wife wanted Jamaican food. We are both from Brooklyn, NY. and have been finding out difficult to locate a good Jamaican spot here in the Bay Area.
I googled and found this spot. The reviews were pretty good. We walked in and were greeted by the owner. We knew we were in the right spot once we heard him talking. His accent was thick, locs were nice, and he reccomended Oxtails..lol. I ordered the Oxtails plate, and my wife ordered the combination plate (Oxtails and curry chicken). She also got a beef patty (which they make in-house). She told the owner we were going to review in.. which meant I was going to review it. Ya'll know she doesn't write any reviews for you all EVER! The definitely give you a healthy serving of food for the price you pay. You won't leave feeling like you got duped in cost.
Opened our food, and the presentation was spectacular. The Oxtails gravy was nice and dark and the pieces given was nice and big, rice and peas were beautiful and soft, festivals were delicious looking, and the plantains did not look too hard or too soft.. just right. Oh, let me not forget about the Jerk Rasta Pasta. I'm not used to it being green. So that threw me off a bit, and it honestly looked a little dry to me.
Time to taste. Everything was good. The flavor of the oxtails was delicious and a little spicy (Not overwhelming, but he should inform ppl in case they can't have spicy), the rice and peas was well cooked, festival were delicious and the plantains were perfect.
However, the rasta pasta needed more flavor, and it was absolutely dry. I probably would ask him to add some gravy to it next time if I order it.
My wife liked her food. I don't think she was a hugh fan of the curry chicken, though. I think it was a little on the dry side, so she most likely won't order it again, knowing her.
I definitely recommend this place, though. We will return and try something different next time. I want to try...

Read moreMy culinary relationship with Fiya Spice began unexpectedly in an Oakley driveway, where their food truck, a humble abode of jerk chicken expertise, first captivated my palate. Fast forward, and they’ve now rooted themselves in a bustling strip mall in Pittsburg, CA, evolving from a wandering food truck to a brick-and-mortar beacon of flavor.
The menu, though a tad pricey, is a testament to quality, drawing a steady stream of patrons. The servings are hearty, and each dish is a delightful exploration of taste. The Chicken Patty was a flaky wonder, stuffed with seasoned meat that transported me back to the streets of Brooklyn and the vibes of Ocho Rios. The Coco Bread was another masterpiece, rivaling the authenticity of its island counterparts.
The Combo Plate was a fusion of tantalizing flavors: the ribs smoked to perfection, tender to the bone, and the Creole shrimp, a juicy, flavorful treat. The star of the show, however, was the Curry Goat – tender, richly spiced, and paired beautifully with peas and rice, capturing the essence of traditional island cooking.
The staff were an integral part of the Fiya Spice experience – their politeness, knowledge, and swift service added layers of warmth to the meal. The dining space, though compact, was impeccably maintained, with a playlist of island hits that set a lively backdrop.
Since its opening in April, Fiya Spice has become a go-to for those seeking a taste of island-inspired cuisine. As I left, I assured the owner that this was the beginning of many visits. Fiya Spice has carved out a niche in Pittsburg, bringing a slice of island culinary art to the...
