Highwood Cemetery — Local services in Pittsburgh

8/20/2022 I went out to place a garden flag on 2 of 5 graves I look after. Every live flower from every grave in entire cemetery was gone. NOT one live flower remained anywhere. American flags left shredded all over the ground to which we picked up and are taken to VFW for proper disposal. I have had many flag holders & flags destroyed I spoke (prior to this visit) Caretaker to learn it is now a contracted Cemetery SERVICE with a number of cemeteries. I was informed that he is a Professional Cemetery service under contract with Highwood Cemetery. I found him to rude, curt and arrogant. I asked for Cemetery Board info, requested to hear from them. NEVER HAPPENED. While I am grateful for grass cutting, I am sad it is so carelessly and disrespectfully done. Not one live flower left, peony bushes were weed whacked down to the bare earth. So If going to visit loved ones don't show you care enough to take live flowers to plant as they will not be there when you return. I assume it is to make it easier for the Service to maintain if they do not have be careful around the markers. Shame now we can't even show respect...

On Sunday July 2, 2017 at roughly noon I and my children and brother visited Highwood to find my parents and brothers grave. First, there was no one available to answer questions or to locate a grave. Second, when we did find the grave sites I was appalled by the lack of upkeep in the Veterans garden. Grass not mowed, markers over grown and in readable from lack of care. Third, service roads potholes and almost undriveable dead ends and brush down over roads. Very piss poor showing. As a past cemetery employee I would be ashamed to take a prospective customer family on a tour of this facility.

The state of this facility shows a drastic lack of caring on the part of the sales staff, maintainence crew, management and mostly the ownership.

Shame on...

I have to say this year has been very disappointing year for groundskeeping up here I had a big tree on my family's grave site I removed it pushed it against the tree three weeks later it still here I've called and told them about it they don't want to cut the grass up in the higher Parts they don't want to maintain the trees and higher Parts very disappointing my family's been up here for a while over 20 years and I can say that this time around is the first year that I've ever complained about this site it's always been kept beautiful grass is always been cut trees of always been taken care of I don't know why but this year has been the worst and I am very very very disappointed in...
