I will try and shorten this post but if you want to be an ASL interpreter, do not go to Collin. I was in the program for one year and an A student. I had problems with administration not listening to my concerns such as a teacher who had excessive class cancellations, a teacher not grading my work for months, and not being properly prepared for classes that build on one another because there seems to be no teacher accountability for what is taught or how things are graded. Homework assignments changed last minute after the original completed. The Dean told me when I applied that 60% of their students pass the BEI but that is not true when a professor told our class that 3 out of 30 something passed. I was also told there was an assessment every student has to pass to move into the second year. None of us took it nor was it ever mentioned. Maybe because they knew we wouldn't pass it? There were definitely people in the upper classes that I thought "how did they pass to get here?" Are they just taking money and passing students and not caring if they can actually pass the BEI and have a career in interpreting? Well that's how I feel. I am now moving to Tarrant County College and hope I will be more prepared for the career I want. Just to mention my wife and I both have degrees from universities and have NEVER seen such disorganization and lack of response to valid concerns. Honestly, the cashiers office was more sympathetic to my problems than the people in charge of the Interpreting program. Other classmates are leaving too. Many others want to but are stuck because of financial aid, grants and scholarships. Many other issues... one more that takes the cake is that I have a leg disability. My leg brace broke and I had to be on crutches. I can't carry books on crutches so I called the school to see if they could provide assistance for me to get to class. The person who I spoke with at the Accessibility office said I had to fill out paperwork and have them process it and they couldn't provide any help. I just needed someone to carry my books to class. I had to miss class because they couldn't help! I also had required books listed for classes but after class started found out we didn't need some books and needed others. It happened more than once and I was out the money I spent on the books I didn't really need. Again no sympathy or response from the folks in charge. I even copied upper leadership on an email about many issues and no response to me from them, nothing. So save your time and just begin Interpreting at Tarrant. I at least hope the issues are none like what I had at Collin. If you stayed until the end of reading this, thank you and I hope it helped you make up your mind...
Read moreI attended the Spring Creek Campus several years ago and in my opinion the pathetic instruction, lousy customer service, and low morale left a very bad mark on me. I experienced many encounters with prejudicial treatment and micro-aggressions from classmates, instructors, and licensed professional counselors. The classes are inexpensive but I was not impressed with the instructors' imperious, insulting, and abrasive attitudes and their unreasonably strict grading systems. The lectures, classwork, and team projects were painfully draining and worthless instead of being inspirational, practical, relevant, and informative. Some of the instructors couldn't even speak comprehensible English.
In my opinion the personal and career counseling services were consistently horrible, belligerent, and disrespectful. They obfuscated in circles and rudely trivialized and belittled everything that was important to me at the time including my feelings. I was not helped at all by a few boorish licensed professional counselors there who had absolutely no empathy at all for me and probably very low self esteem. I felt that there was a student to prison pipeline as well. In my experience malicious administrators and a certain thin-skinned counselor are quick to call the police and prosecute students through the Collin County kangaroo court system for frivolous pranks in essence wasting tax payer money and in an exploitative attempt to take as much money away from the antagonized targeted student. Yet hypocritical counselors, instructors, and administrators antagonize students to create an atmosphere of humiliation and are liberated to get away with such low morale. In my opinion The Dean of Students Office was frequently hypocritical and unhelpful towards me. The students that attended with me were very immature and off-putting always arguing and bickering during team work and class discussions. Attending Collin College was a complete waste of time, energy, and...
Read moreWorst Cafeteria I ever experienced!
Very good, clean, convenient campus, the professors are good! But staffs’ quality need to be improved! Especially in the cougar cafe! The service is very bad! Everyone has an unpleasant face, A lot of negative energy, Only the lady serves chicken smiled. Especially the cashier young black girl is terrible, Very bad attitude, When l checked out about 3:15pm today, she was always playing her phone leaning on the counter, in the entire check out process, she was always showing her back to me, never turn back face to me to serve! Very rude attitude! Don’t know why campus hire those low quality people to serve the people here! Here is college, academic place, Should show respect and higher standard quality service! All chicken was gone, only burgers left, I had to order the burger, the meat tasted awful, very low quality no fresh meat! I have to do homework in school, did not want spend time to go out to eat to save the time. This is the worst cafe I have experienced. Food and service! I saved some time! But have to spend more time to write the review, and received a lot negative energy! Does it worth it? What can I do if I need a meal? I have to bring my own meal or go out to eat? So inconvenient!
We spend time and money here, deserve the positive and pleasant experience and time! Please Don’t hire those people to destroy the campus and circumstances! Probably management has the problems!
Btw, I headed to coffee center, wanted to buy a cup of hot coffee at 3:05pm. The girl told me no hot coffee, because it is closing. But the coffee closes at 3:30pm. The girl was busy cleaning up instead of serving people! Off cause, with a cold face! What is wrong here? Not...
